Buying A House

While Xenophilius and I hadn't necessarily been trying to convince, we hadn't been preventing it either. He'd called it 'not, not trying', essentially, while we weren't trying, we wouldn't be disappointed if we got pregnant either. We'd started this 'not, not trying' shortly after graduation, around the time we'd moved in with each other, so around September of 1978.

Now we'd been married for 4 months, and were looking for a house. We'd been 'not, not trying' for over a year and if I'm being honest, it was starting to get to me. Today was made that much more emotional by yet another negative pregnancy test.

I sighed, throwing the test into the trash can in the bathroom before walking back out into the living room. I had work to do, Xenophilius needed an illustration for the next cover of The Quibbler.

There was a rumor that there was an Acromantula in the Forbidden Forest somewhere near the school, and while no students had actually seen it some parents seemed to be afraid of the idea of having a beast with the classification of XXXXX being that close to the school. Given that one of our readers had specifically asked me about the rumor and if we could look into the situation, I knew he'd want to write an article about it.

The reader was concerned about her son's safety at the school, I reassured her that her son was safe at the school and that I'd look into the rumors. They seemed to be true, there was an abnormally large amount of spiders in the school and they weren't average sized spiders either, they were absolutely enormous. It seemed there was an Acromantula somewhere near the school, and they'd had given their offspring the express rule NOT to go in or around the school after growing over a certain size for their safety.

I got the impression that it might be female given how many babies there were but that wasn't necessarily the case, it could also be male or even a breeding pair given the sheer amount of babies. Acromantulas grow to be more than 15 feet in length, and the females are typically bigger than the males.

They have jet-black hair, are capable of human speech, have a taste for human flesh, and can become cannibalistic if hungry enough. They're also native to the Island of Borneo, which means someone would've had to have smuggled it into Britain illegally. The idea of someone deliberately smuggling in a beast classified XXXXX into, on, or near the grounds of the school was terrifying.

What exactly was the purpose of this? There's absolutely no reason a creature that dangerous should be anywhere near Hogwarts! I spent the better part of 4 hours drawing a picture for the cover of the next issue, and it actually turned out pretty decent given how upset I was at the moment.

While I draw the pictures, I let Xenophilius finish making the covers. I typically don't know what pages the articles are going to be on, nor do I know what he wants the cover story to be called. I left the drawing on the desk with a note telling him I was going to visit Lily and would be home in time to make dinner.
