After having her lunch, Orchid headed back to her room.

She had a sudden urge of inspiration, if Everbloom could do basic magic, whether it was a patch of grass or not, creating a measly spark was nothing compared to that.

And if Everbloom could do that, it probably meant that everyone else was able to use their own type of magic too.

And of course, her first impression on this world couldn't be her creating a tiny spark and calling it a day.

She needed to get better at using her magic, whether it was to prove to Etarnaya that she could use and control her magic, or whether to use it to protect her against the Shadow who looked intent on coming back and finishing her off.

She went over to her bookshelf where she took out the two books Mr Passer gave her.

She opened up 'The History of Light-Walkers', completely skipping the actual history part (which she decided to read another day) and went over to the index, which to her delight including examples of what light-walkers could do.

One of the examples was the ability to create a force-field of light around a given person, and thankfully, it seemed to be a pretty basic spell.

She moved over to the second book Mr Passer gave her, 'Controlled Magic', and carefully took out the stick that came with it.

"At this rate I should be going to Hogwarts." Orchid said to herself with a grin.

After a bit of research and learning techniques, Orchid stood in the center of her living room, holding the wand with shaking hands.

She took a deep breath, and imagined sparks of light coming from the wand circling around her.

She closed her eyes and pointed the wand away from her.

She opened her eyes slowly and... nothing.

Orchid groaned and sat on the sofa.

"You know you need more practise Orchid." Mairy sighed with a chuckle.

"I know." Orchid mumbled and got up again.

Orchid repeated the steps again, she closed her eyes and imagined sparks of light coming from the end of the wand.

She imagined the room filled with glowing light, circling around her, giving her a sense of warmth.

She focused all her energy into the glowing sparks, she imagined that they were a part of her and that she was unstoppable.

She opened her eyes and gasped.

In front of her were hundreds of tiny glowing sparks, waiting in front of her for her to tell them what to do.

"Hello?" Orchid asked tentatively, waving her hand, wondering if they were alive.

The group of light shaped themselves into a hand, which waved back at her.

'Can you hear me?' Orchid said in her mind, wondering if they could connect mentally to her.

In her head, she heard a distant voice, that didn't seem to be her own that replied 'yes'.

With that information, she closed her eyes and imagined them turning into a forcefield around her, the light shielding her from whatever danger there may be.

She opened her eyes and to her delight a spherical domes of the sparks of light was shining around her.

Even though she was totally (well, with a few doubts) safe, she was somewhat prepared if the shadow came back for her.

And she wouldn't look like a total noob when she would have to go to Davianna (which was actually the main purpose of practising her skills, whether she liked it or not).

Now she knew that she could control these sparks of light with just a thought she decided to practise that a bit more.

She imagined them going back into the wand and then coming out again, and they followed her instructions with ease.

"Good job Orchid, you're a natural." Orchid heard a voice from the door.

"Everbloom! When did you come?" Orchid turned around the see Everbloom leaning against the door.

"Well, it is getting pretty late and I was wondering why you weren't coming for dinner." Everbloom replied.

Orchid looked at the clock and to her disbelief, she had spent five hours just conjuring up tiny sparks of light.

"Well, I think that is enough practise for today." Orchid grinned as she put away the wand.

"I think it is enough too, at this rate, you'll become better at me in magic." Everbloom said as they walked out of the room.

"You wish." Orchid laughed, and before she knew it, her third day in Davianna was over.
