"Are we supposed to understand all this con-artist lingo?"
I smiled and leaned closer to Todoroki so I could speak quietly in his ear and not disturb the others. "I don't think so. I think it's supposed to be confusing."
"Why would they want to confuse the audience?"
I shrugged in response and turned back to the movie. As we watched, Todoroki would occasionally hand me a snack. He had taken it upon himself to hand me different flavors of pocky, not letting me know which I was about to eat. Midoriya had claimed it was the most scientific way to decide which one I liked the best.
Before Iida had revealed his movie choice, we were all settling in when Midoriya had returned from the convenience store. The entire group was shocked when I asked about all the different colored boxes littering the table. He had bought pocky sticks in a variety of flavors for all of us to share, but I had never seen it before.
"I know you try to eat a healthy diet, Satori, but how do you not even know what it is?" Midoriya asked.
"Surely you've seen the boxes before. They're in every convenience store and supermarket," Tsu said, observing me closely.
"I've never been to a convenience store or a supermarket," I said, slightly embarrassed.
"Just like Momo. Makes sense, you have people who did that stuff for you, right?" Ochako asked.
"Yes, I did. I haven't gotten the chance to go yet but I'm looking forward to it." I scanned the boxes again, "why are there so many different kinds?"
And that's how I found myself eating random sticks of pocky, trying to figure out the flavor. I wasn't allowed to focus on it too long because Todoroki was bombarding me with questions during this movie.
"Wait. He's planned this whole robbery but the guy's dating his ex-wife? Does he really think he'll be able to walk around the casino without the guy knowing who he is?"
"You're right, it's obviously not a coincidence he targeted the guy but he has to know they'll be watching him like a hawk right? How is he supposed to be involved in the heist at all?"
I heard Iida sigh loudly from across the room. "You two do realize that if you would simply watch the movie, your questions will probably be answered."
"Yes, but there are too many things that don't make sense. I have no idea what's going on most of the time," Todoroki replied.
"It's a heist movie. You're not supposed to know what's going on until they reveal what's going on. Part of the fun is trying to guess what's going to happen." He paused and motioned his hand at us, "but in your own heads, not aloud to where the rest of us are disturbed."
"Sorry, Iida," I mumbled, shoving another pocky stick in my mouth. "Ooh," I said as soon as I bit into it. "This one, what's this one, Todoroki? It's the best so far."
"Strawberry cream. Unsurprising for the girl who prefers fruit desserts."
I softly elbowed his side and he gave my hair a quick ruffle before turning back to the snacks and handing me an entire box of strawberry pocky. "Thanks." I began eating my snacks as we continued watching this team of con-artists attempt to rob a casino.
"C'mon, was this the plan the whole time? Did Danny anticipate that Benedict would come after him and worked that into the plan from the beginning? Why was it played like that was a wrench in the plans if he expected it to happen?"
"I don't like their explanation either, Todoroki. To test the new guy? That seems highly unlikely."
"Right? Why would you ever bring a guy into a plan of this magnitude if you didn't think you could trust him?" Todoroki crossed his arms across his chest and huffed before leaning back further into the couch. "I don't know if I like this movie, it's hurting my brain," he mumbled.
