Grandma and I spent the rest of the afternoon shopping. We bought shoes and accessories for the event, but I also took the opportunity to update my wardrobe. I had confided that, besides my school uniform, I mostly wore workout gear and only had a couple casual outfits that I felt comfortable in. She was absolutely horrified when she learned I had bought most of the clothes online and quickly went to work remedying the situation.
I was exhausted by the time we made it back to Grandma's house. After a delicious dinner, I excused myself for the night. Upon returning to my room, I saw I had a text from Shoto.

Does 10:30 tomorrow work for you? We can visit with Mom and then grab an early lunch.

How are things going with your sister?

Fine. Dad's not here so it's been good.
Natsuo stopped over for dinner tonight. That was nice.

I asked her if she would wait in the lobby while I visited Mom. When she asked why I told her you were coming with me. She freaked out a little and yelled at me for not telling her I had a girlfriend.

Funny, my grandma had a similar reaction when I told her about you.

I'm not sure how to respond to that.

I set my phone on the end table next to my bed and tried not to think too much about how I'd be meeting my boyfriend's mother tomorrow. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.
Glancing around the hospital waiting room, I realized we were early. My grandma sat in the chair next to me, poised and proper, engaged in people watching.
"You really don't have to wait with me, Grandma."
"Nonsense," she said with a smile, continuing to look around the bustling entryway. "I want to see this boyfriend of yours. I'm not taking any chances that he might slip away."
"He wouldn't do that, Grandma. Besides, we wanted to have lunch together afterward. You'd be able to see him then."
"Ah, I believe that's him," she said, standing and gesturing toward the automatic doors.
Sure enough, Shoto came through the doors, a pretty woman with white hair walking alongside him. He smiled as he caught my eye and began crossing the waiting room to where I stood.
"Kana."
"Hey, Sho. Um, so this is my grandma," I said motioning to the woman at my side. "Grandma, this is my boyfriend, Shoto Todoroki."
"Nice to meet you, uh, I'm sorry, I know it's not Mrs. Satori..."
"It's Fujiwara, dear. Nice to meet you, too."
