Author's Note: The picture above is what I envision some of the pieces of Kana's hero costume to look like, especially her new mask.
Our discussion finished, Edgeshot showed me to a locker room where I could change into my hero costume and store my belongings. After that, we went out on my first patrol. It was completely uneventful, the two of us walking a patrol route that circled the city. I was given an earpiece communicator, allowing me to receive messages from the receptionists back in the office, as well as communicate with the other heroes on the ground. Edgeshot spent our patrol time explaining how he ran his agency. The entire experience was straightforward and Edgeshot, though not extremely talkative, was thorough. Once we arrived back at the agency, he showed me how to fill out my timesheet and then released me for the evening. My one off-the-clock responsibility was to contact my costume designer about changes to my hero costume.
Edgeshot had agreed with my assessment that the less of me that was seen the better. He had even taken my mask idea a step farther and suggested I ask for some type of hood to cover my distinctive hair. The less the hero Gaia was associated with the student Kana Satori, the better. Because then, the less chance there was of Kana Satori the student being discovered and outed as Kana Satori the heiress. During my commute, I tried to come up with a few mask ideas to submit. Not that it would matter, the designer had already proven to have a better sense when it came to these types of things. I would explain why I was asking for the hood and mask and I trusted they would come up with the best possible solution.
When I got back to the dorms, I realized how late it was. Or at least my stomach did. I was back a couple hours before curfew, but I had missed dinner. Yet the first thing I looked for when I got back was Shoto. And there he was, sitting in the dining room with some of our classmates, waiting for me.
"You're back," he said as soon as he saw me enter the room. "I saved you a plate of food. Sit down and I'll go grab it."
He jumped up and hurried to the kitchen, a few of the boys bursting into laughter at the sight. "You're so whipped, Todoroki," Sero said.
As I sat at the end of the table, I looked around at the faces of my classmates sitting there. Sero and Kaminari were laughing while Mina, Toru, and Kyoka argued with them to stop. Mineta was grumbling about how women always took advantage of a man's hard work with Iida, as usual, scolding him for his remarks. But Momo sat quietly, arms crossed over her chest and a frown on her face, while watching Shoto scramble around in the kitchen.
"I don't know what whipped means," Shoto said, placing a tray in front of me and sitting beside me. "But I don't see what's so funny about wanting to take care of my girlfriend and make sure she stays healthy."
"Thanks, Sho," I said leaning into him a bit before sitting up to eat my dinner.
A similar sight met me each day as I came home from work. The students who were not involved in work studies seemed to congregate in the commons and hang out together in the evenings. It always looked like they were having fun whenever I got back. I didn't really get the opportunity to join them, though. After eating my dinner, I usually had to excuse myself to do school work. Not to mention, that I was tired after the long day and not inclined to stay up until curfew to hang out. But I noticed I wasn't the only one who was hesitant to join in with them after a long day of work. It had only been a few days, but Midoriya was looking worn out, as though he had lost some of his drive. He was preoccupied about something, to the point of struggling during class. And, although he had made the news after fighting with a villain, Kirishima appeared more serious, seemingly lost in thought at times. I think, like me, they were probably adapting to working in the real world.
