We were moving to yet another section of the arena, since the second was destroyed as bad as the first. But I was having a hard time concentrating. It wasn't fair that I had to prepare for my own battle without knowing if Shoto was seriously injured or not. But Bakugo somehow knew exactly what was on my mind.
"Get your head in the game, Apples! He'll be fine; he's too annoying to just up and die. The old lady'll patch him up. And he'll be disappointed if you screw up because you're worrying over him."
"I know." I took a deep breath to calm myself. He was right. Shoto would be fine. And in the real world, I couldn't be constantly worrying about him or else I'd wind up putting myself in danger. I needed to stay level-headed if I didn't want to wind up in a hospital bed myself.
Our team headed to the designated starting point with Kyoka, Sero, and I several steps behind Bakugo. He tossed a couple of his pre-loaded grenades over his shoulder at us. "Take these just in case. They ain't too strong, but they could come in handy. Other than that, you know what to do, right? Just follow my lead. I'll lead the charge while you back me up from behind."
"I still don't know about going straight for the kill. Their whole team specializes in countermoves! Since we've got Jiro, why not play it safe and wait for an opening?" Sero tried his best at reasoning with Bakugo.
"Yeah, are you sure this is the best plan, Bakugo?" Kyoka asked.
"Idiots. That's exactly why we gotta make the first move, or we're dead in the water. We don't wait around for openings. We smash through and make our own!"
As we readied to hear the starting buzzer, Bakugo began yelling at us again. "Make sure you keep up! And Ears, make sure you tell me as soon as you locate those losers!"
"I have a name," Kyoka snapped back, tired of Bakugo's attitude.
"One more thing. Don't forget it! When you guys are in trouble, I'll save ya. And when I'm in trouble, you cover me. Got it?"
The buzzer rang, beginning the match and Bakugo blasted off, leaving us behind. Sero and I immediately began swinging our way through the pipes, leaving Kyoka alone on the ground.
"Hurry it up, slowpokes!"
"I'm trying to listen while I run!" Kyoka shouted over his blasts. She caught my eye as I swung next to her, trying not to let her get too far behind. "To think it almost seemed like he was willing to cooperate."
"He hasn't changed one bit since the sports festival," Sero said with a laugh.
I rolled my eyes in silent agreement, but thought that Sero was actually wrong. Bakugo was a lot stronger now than he was six months ago. Both physically and mentally.
"They're here! Find them Ears!"
"I said, I've got a name!" she growled, but stopped and held her hands over her ears to drown out any background noise.
We all slowed our progress as Kyoka stopped to focus. It didn't normally take Kyoka this long. Sero and I both stopped and dropped to the ground while Bakugo perched himself on a pipe higher up.
"What's the holdup?!" Bakugo growled.
"Oh no! They've got us!" Kyoka looked up and began darting her eyes frantically in all directions.
Small pieces of what looked like debris were floating nearby. It took me a second to realize it was the girl from class B. This is what her quirk looked like when her body had been split into pieces. I could see some tapping against the pipes nearby and realized she'd used her quirk to counter Kyoka specifically. She began sending body parts flying at us, knocking into all of us. They didn't pack much of a punch, but they were annoying.
