I slid across the back seat of the limo, making room for Shoto to sit next to me. Smoothing away the wrinkles in my long skirt, I leaned back against the cool leather seat, tilting my head to the side to take in the sight of my husband, handsome as always in a formal tuxedo. We had just finished a ceremony to honor the pros who had rescued some government officials taken hostage by a terrorist organization. Due to competent heroes like Shoto, no one had been injured and the villains had been easily apprehended. Because of the high profile nature of the case, the heroes involved had been awarded commendations from the government. It was a pretty big deal and the reason why we had both donned formal attire for the first time in several years.
Speaking of the formal attire...I groaned and shifted in my seat, trying to get comfortable, and tugged at the bodice of my dress.
"What's the matter, my love?" Shoto asked, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"This dress is a little tight. I guess I've put on some weight in the past couple of years. Probably from eating too much of Lunch Rush's food," I said with a small chuckle. "I'll need to lay off if my clothes aren't going to fit."
"I think you look amazing. And we can always buy new clothes. No dieting," he said, his expression serious. He tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear and pressed a kiss to my temple. "Besides, it probably has more to do with your decrease in physical activity than your diet. Training future heroes is a lot less strenuous than being one yourself."
He had a point. Five years ago, when I became pregnant with our youngest child, I had taken an extended leave of absence from hero work. It was hard enough being a wife, mother of two children, and a pro hero. Throw in being pregnant, and it proved to be too much for me. Even after Yuki was born and I returned to duty, everything felt too overwhelming. With Shoto's support, I retired from hero work and spent the time focusing on our family. Retiring allowed me to help my oldest son, Izumi, hone his quirk, since it was an off-shoot of my own. I was able to be there when my daughter, Reina, first got her quirk and nearly burnt the house down. While that had been a particularly frightening experience for all of us, being there to keep her calm and prevent anyone from getting hurt had made it so I never regretted my decision.
It had been a crazy couple of years but I would be forever grateful for having those, and many more, experiences with my family. Then, two years ago, I was surprised to receive an employment offer from UA. They wanted me to pass on my knowledge and experience to the future generation and I was thrilled at the opportunity. Thankfully, it was only a part-time job managing the hero basic training classes. But Sho was right. Teaching combat and rescue was much less taxing than the actual hero work.
"Hmm. While that may be true, it doesn't change the fact that this dress is too tight. I can't wait to get home and take it off."
"Can I help with that?" he leaned over and whispered suggestively in my ear.
I swatted at his leg. "I swear, sometimes it's like you're still a sixteen year old boy."
"You're right," he said, running a hand across my thigh. "All these years and I still can't get enough of you. So don't even think about taking this dress off yourself."
He placed a lingering kiss to my neck, just below my ear, making me shudder. "Behave yourself, Shoto," I said in a low voice. "We're not home yet." I made an obvious glance at the driver in front of us, but Shoto just chuckled.
"Don't worry," he said, kissing my neck again. "I'm a very patient man."
Getting out of the car as we arrived home, I was startled to see Izumi sitting on the steps leading up to the house. As we approached, I noticed he had a towel wrapped around his neck and his clothes were damp. "Why are you all wet? And isn't it a little late for you to be outside? Where's Mrs. Tanaka?"
