The school festival was over and most of the students' spirits had gone with it. We were back to the more humdrum activities of school life. A week went by and when I wasn't in class, my time was spent hanging out with my friends in the common room, sparring in the gym, or training with Mr. Aizawa and Shinso from general studies.
My sparring sessions with Mr. Aizawa were intense. I learned that he had been going easy on me, but now that I was combining my quirk into my hand-to-hand, he wasn't holding back. We had a good system going. Mr. Aizawa would instruct Shinso while I warmed up against him. He was getting much better at using the restraint scarves, but still no match for me. After that I would spar with Mr. Aizawa while Shinso observed. I could feel myself getting stronger every day. Imagine my shock at the sudden news he dropped on me.
"Our private training is done for the time being."
"What? Why?"
"My schedule just got a lot busier. I have to prioritize my time and, honestly, you don't need these anymore Satori. Very few villains are keeping up on their combat training. The chance of you going up against a villain who's a better fighter than you is slim. Shinso your training time will be reduced and solely focus on the capture scarf. Satori already assists several of her classmates during individual training time, so if you'd like to continue your hand-to-hand, I suggest you get with her or another hero course student and begin sparring in the gym."
"Sir, may I ask, why the sudden changes?" Shinso asked, looking a little down.
"Eri, the young girl we rescued in the yakuza raid, is coming to live at UA. She doesn't have any family to stay with and her quirk has the potential to be dangerous. Being near me is the safest option for everyone. The entire faculty will be helping, but right now, she's most comfortable around me and Mirio Togata. UA is her family now and we are all taking it very seriously."
"I suppose I can't argue with that," Shinso said while looking at the ground.
"You're both dismissed for the night."
As Shinso and I began heading back toward the locker rooms, I wanted to at least make the offer. "Let me know if you need someone to spar with. I'm in the gym a lot so I'm easy to find. And if you'd rather not spar with me, I could introduce you to some of my classmates."
"I appreciate the offer, Satori, but I won't be taking you up on it. I've been training with you because Mr. Aizawa insisted. But I have no intention of getting buddy-buddy with the hero course students. I'm planning to take one of your spots after all," he said with a smirk before walking in the opposite direction.
After Mr. Aizawa canceled our sessions, I got back into a routine alongside the rest of my classmates. While I was happy to be learning and training, it had all gotten rather monotonous, especially after all the chaos the school year had provided so far. The most exciting thing to happen to me in those weeks was a message I got from Shinji.
