Part 30

At home Jeff discovers the part he hates most. Everyone comes to him with the same phrase, pity looks and a hug or a handshake. He doesn't even know some of them and fast he has enough and goes upstairs.

When Jeff opens the door he's surprised to see Kurt. "Oh sorry I didn't want to-" he starts and wants to go again but Kurt interupts him "It's okay. You're escaping the hugs right?". The blond boy nods and closes the door behind him. Kurt sits down on the bed and waits for his friend to sit down next to him. "I hid upstairs too back then. Blaine knew I wanted to escape the hugs so he stayed downstairs and excused me. He reserved me some food and brought it upstaires to me. I asked him if he can stay because I didn't want to be alone anymore." Kurt tells . "Blaine really loved you already back then" the blond boy laughs and Kurt answers "I just couldn't see it and I think we didn't really knew it because we were young". "So back then he really was an amazing best friend for you" Jeff continues and the other boy nods "Yes and he still is an amazing friend to you plus you have Nick and me".

There's silence for a second before Jeff admits "I don't want to go back down there". "That's okay. If you want to be alone I can go down to the others" Kurt says but the blond boy shakes his head "Stay. Please". "Okay. Let me text Blaine fast. He'll know what to do" Kurt says and takes his phone.

Kurt: Jeff escapes the hugs. I' staying with him.
Blaine: I'll take care of everything

"But what about taking a nap now?" Jeff asks but Kurt shrugs "I just go to bed earlier again. Tell me. What do you want to do?". "Can we listen to music again. The favorite songs of my grandma and your mom? Your mom had a great taste in music" Jeff proposes and Kurt nods agreeing "Your grandma had a great taste too".

Since Kurt already wears comfortable clothes, Jeff changers too while Kurt puts on some music. The first song playing is I want to hold your hand from the beatles and while it plays Kurt quietly sings along. While more music plays in the background the boys remember, talk and sing.

Downstairs Blaine searches for Nick and finds out that he's actually searching for Jeff. The curly haired boy pulls his friend in a not crowded corner and explains "Jeff and Kurt are upstairs. Jeff escaped the hugs and Kurt stays up with him. If someone asks where Jeff is you either don't know or say he's in the bathroom. In about an hour you should go up and bring them something to eat. I'll stay down here and keep excusing Jeff". "This is very detailed" Nick answers but Blaine says "Kurt escaped the hugs at his moms funeral. We just do for Jeff what I did for Kurt back then". "Okay" Nick answers and goes back to the others with Blaine.

A bit more than an hour later Nick goes to the kitchen. He stopped counting the times he excused Jeff. After preparing two plates with a bit of everything Nick signales Blaine with a nod that he goes upstairs now.

Upstairs he knocks at the door and enters, finding the boys sitting on the bed, looking at photos. "Hey. I thought I'll bring you something to eat. Well Blaine told me but here" Nick says, putting down the plates. "Thank you honey" Jeff thanks him. "Thanks Nick. How's it going downstairs?" Kurt asks but the questioned boy shrugs "At first a lot people asked where you are and I stopped counting but it's less now".

Then he turns his attention to his boyfriend "How are you baby?". "Okay. We're listening to her favorite music and look through her photos. It helps a lot" Jeff answers. "If you want Nick and you can continue where we stopped. Your boyfriend looks like he doesn't want to leave you and I don't mind going down again" Kurt suggests. "You would do that?" Nick asks with shining eyes. The bald boy nods "Of course. If that's what Jeff wants too". The blond boy doesn't think long about it "Nick can stay". Kurt nods and stands up "I get changed and then I go down and leave you alone".

In no time Kurt has changed and puts his comfortable clothes on the mattress for later. Then he takes his plate of food and leaves his friends alone.

"So. Music and photos huh?" Nick asks, taking one of the pictures in front of him to look at it. "It was my first day of school and I think she was more exited than me" Jeff tells laughing quietly. "She always have been overexited for everything. It's the way I got to know her" Nick answers, looking up from the photo into his boyfriends eyes.

"Hey handsome" Kurt greets his boyfriend from behind. Blaine turns around and looks at him confused "Hey. What are you doing here? I thought you're upstairs with Jeff". "Change of plans. Nick is upstairs and I keep you company" Kurt explains and sits down with his plate on the kitchen table.

Blaine sits down next to him "How is he?". "I think it's still hard for him but it gets better. Especially today is hard which is understandable" the other boy answers. "And how are you?" Blaine now asks but Kurt shrugs "Okay I guess. I miss my mom but even tho today takes me back to her funeral I thought I would feel worse. This isn't about me but about Jeff anyway" . "No Kurt it's okay if it takes you back. Don't push your own feelings back because you think that it's about Jeff. If you want you can go back upstairs" The curly haired boy says worried but Kurt shakes his head "No. I'm staying down with you. As long as you hug me when I'm done with eating and we sit down on the couch with your arm around me". Of course Blaine doesn't says no to that.

In the late afternoon the last guests say their goodbyes. Since the catering took their stuff from the kitchen there's not much to clean up and with the help of Jeffs parents the boys are done quickly.

The parents leave and the boys change into their PJ's already. Sure it's early but no one cares. They warm up the leftovers and sit down int he living room, watching tv, eating and cuddling.

After dinner while watching a movie Blaine feels Kurts heavy head resting on his shoulder. The boys breath is even and his eyes are closed but Blaine lets him sleep. It's been an pretty eventful day and Kurt hadn't time to rest much.

When the movie is over Jeff and Nick go upstairs and Blaine carefully wakes Kurt. "Kurt baby. Come on, let's go to bed" he says under his breath and Kurt nods slowly, still half asleep. Blaine helps him up and leads him with an arm around him to the bedroom.

The second Kurts head touches the pillow he's asleep again. Blaine laughs quietly and since Nick and Jeff already are lying in bed and Jeff looks half asleep too, it's up to Blaine to darken the room. After that he lays down next to his boyfriend who cuddles closer to him.
