This is the story of a boy named Eijiro Kirishima.

He's a mostly normal kid, who lives alone with his two brothers. The three boys live on the outskirts of the Norowareta Forest, and make a living making and selling baked goods.

Eijiro was different than his brothers. His oldest brother, Tamaki, was the son of a famous baker named Taishiro Toyomitsu. His "twin" brother, Tetsutetsu was as well, though he had a different mother. And Eijiro, well... Eijiro just showed up one day.

A few days after Tetsutetsu was born, Eijiro showed up at the family's doorstep. Tamaki's father decided "Eh, we have room for another kid. I guess this is mine now", and essentially adopted Eijiro.

This is the story of how he died.

"Oh d-dear..." Tamaki said one morning, reading a letter he'd received.

"What is it, Tamaki?" Eijiro asked, placing the tray of muffins he'd been making in the oven.

"Y-you remember my good friend, Nejire, don't you?" Tamaki asked. "Well, her girlfriend, Yuyu, j-just sent me this letter... a-and apparently, Nejire is v-very sick..."

"Oh no..." Eijiro said. "Well, I hope she gets better soon-"

"Why don't we send her something to make her feel better?!" Tetsutetsu yelled out, coming out of nowhere.

"T-that's a good idea, Tetsu!" Tamaki responded, smiling. "I-I'm sure Nejire and Yuyu would appreciate s-something from us! But what...?"

"Well, I just put some muffins in the oven." Eijiro said. "Maybe we could give her those?"

"Wow, m-my little brothers heads are just filled with g-good ideas today!" Tamaki said, proud of his usually kinda stupid younger brothers. "We'll send them a n-nice batch of muffins... a-and maybe some wine." He said, whispering the last part.

"Wait... how will we send them?" Eijiro asked.

"In the mail, duh." Tetsutetsu responded.

"N-no, you can't just send fresh baked goods through mail, Tetsutetsu." Tamaki explained. "I thought y-you'd know that by now. O-one of us will have to deliver it in p-person."

"In... person...?" Eijiro nervously asked. "But... Nejire and Yuyu live on the other side of the Norowareta Forest, right...?"

"You know how dangerous the forest is!" Tetsutetsu yelled out. "Tama, isn't that how your mom disappeared? She went into the forest and never came back out?"

"W-well, this is the only way to get the muffins to Nejire and Yuyu..." Tamaki said. "You can't exactly go around the forest, and if you could, i-it'd take much too long..."

"Well, I can't go." Tetsutetsu blurted out. "I have, like, seven orders to fulfil today. And you know me, the kind of person who is always excited and willing to do work...!"

"A-adding on to Tetsutetsu's point, I can't do it either... after all, the r-reason Tetsutetsu's doing more work than u-usual is because I f-fractured my wrist last week... i-if I went, I wouldn't be able to d-defend myself..."
