Ochako Uraraka lived a peaceful life under the sea. She was a mermaid, her bottom half resembled a firefish goby, and she spent most of her time looking for treasure, exploring with her friends, and eating brine shrimp.

It was a wonderful life, and she wouldn't trade it for the world...

But, even though she loves her life, she has often found herself wondering about the world above the waves. What would it be like to live up there? Is there intelligent life up there? Just how big is that world?

She had so many questions, but... they would never be answered. She knew that. She's a mermaid, she can't survive long without water, so she'll never be able to explore the world above the waves and find her answers.

She was fine with that, though. She loved her life under the water, and was honestly fine with her questions about the surface never being answered.

Ochako was fine with her questions never being answered...

But one day, her questions would be answered. Forcefully.

Ever since that day, she's wished she never had those questions...

She wished she could just return home to the ocean.

Momo Yaoyorozu is a human girl, the daughter of a very rich family. Even though she knows her parents money is enough to allow her to live a comfortable life, and her parents were even ok with doing that, she still wanted to get herself a job.

There was a place hiring... it was an aquarium.

There, she would find something that would... well, it would definitely ruin her chances of getting hired there.

"And here, we have our finest specimen." The person who was showing Yaoyorozu around the facility announced, showing her a large tank. "A mermaid, possibly the only one in existence."

"Um... there's nothing in there." Yaoyorozu said, looking into the dark water, trying to find the supposed 'mermaid' this person was talking about.

"Ugh, she always does this. It's to the point where our visitors tend to think we're lying." The person pounded on the glass of the tank three times. "We've been training her to show off and do cute tricks for our guests, but it hasn't exactly been working. Though, she has learned to respond to children knocking on the glass, which is good."

Then, Yaoyorozu saw her. A beautiful mermaid with a badly damaged tail. She had cuts and bruises all over her body.

"O-oh my, is she ok-?"

"It's fine. It'd probably be worse in the wild, actually." The person coldly said. "It gave itself those cuts, probably due to the stress of moving locations. The bruises are self-inflicted too, from slamming against the glass. And the damage to its tail... it was just... like that when we found it." Yaoyorozu was easily able to tell this person was lying.
