A flare is shot up into the sky.

"Someone's sure to see it this time..." Todoroki said to himself.

The two teens were losing hope. It's been a month, and nobody had come to rescue them yet. There was a plane crash, and these two were the only survivours.

Now, they were stuck on an island.

Todoroki walked into the tent they had set up for shelter.

"Yaoyorozu... do you think anybody's coming to rescue us...?" He asked, feeling completely hopeless. He sat down beside her, sitting so that his knees were at the same level as his chest.

"No." Yaoyorozu responded. "But even so... we need to keep trying, right...?" Blood leaked out of her mouth as she tried to encourage Todoroki. "I-I'll keep making flares for us... if we just c-continue doing what we've been doing... firing off one flare each morning a-and each night... then surely, somebody will save us..."

"Are you sure about this, Yaoyorozu?" Todoroki asked, concerned. "You can't keep using your Quirk like this, not with those injuries..."

"Todoroki, it's been a month... I-I've had this injury for a month... this piece of debris has been stuck in my stomach for a month." Yaoyorozu said. "It hasn't killed me yet, has it?"

"Well, no, but-"

"Then I'll be fine, Todoroki." She softly smiled.

"I'm sorry, Yaoyorozu..." Todoroki said, burying his head in his knees. "If I just hadn't gotten shot with that stupid bullet last year, then getting someone to rescue us would be much easier..." he guiltily spoke. "I could shoot flames up into the sky continuously, which would be more helpful then a flare... or I could have used my ice, and we could have saved ourselves... I'm sorry, this is all my fault."

"That's not true, Todoroki." Yaoyorozu told him.

"But if I had just been able to dodge it, then we probably would've been saved by now!" Todoroki said, frustrated with himself. "I'm so sorry, Yaoyorozu... it's all my fault that you're in so much pain."

Yaoyorozu weakly raised her hand, placing it on Todoroki's face.

"It's not your fault, Todoroki." She sweetly told him. "And even if you think it is your fault, it doesn't matter. You're the one who's going to save us, right? You aren't as injured as I am, you're the one who's firing the flares, you're the one who's going to get us rescued! Right?"

"I'm counting on you to save us, Todoroki."

Another full month passed, one flare fired off each morning and each night.

Nobody had come yet.

Maybe nobody ever will.

Todoroki was Determined, though. He won't lose hope. He can't lose hope.

After all, Yaoyorozu is counting on him to get them a rescue.

He cannot lose hope.

He needs to have hope that someone will see the flares. That someone will rescue them.

One night, when Todoroki returned to the tent to receive the flare from Yaoyorozu...

Something was wrong.

"Yaoyorozu?" He asked looking at her. "Yaoyorozu, are you ok?!"

Her eyes were closed, so she wasn't dead, but she will be soon.

Todorokj dragged her out of the tent, and laid her head in his lap as the two saw on the beach of the island.

He desperately reached his left hand to the sky, hoping that his Quirk laid dormant somewhere inside of him, hoping that it hadn't been completely destroyed when he was shot last year.

It didn't work...

And now... Yaoyorozu's going to die.

Yaoyorozu is going to die, and it'll be all his fault.

And then something happened.

It was as if his desperation to save Yaoyorozu had... ignited something within him.

From Todoroki's left hand, a pillar of flames was shot up into the night sky, piercing the darkness and creating a beacon to their location.

By some divine miracle, Todoroki had somehow activated his Quirk.

Soon, the flames died out.

And soon after that, a large light was shone onto the pair. They... they had been found.

They were rescued, and Yaoyorozu's life was saved.

Afterwards, Todoroki's Quirk never worked again.

Whatever happened that day... it must have been some kind of miracle.
