CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO when she listens.
Her lips pursed at habit. She couldn't kiss him again.
It's been a few weeks since the christmas party and ten years since senior year. She wasn't quite sure how much her heart could handle if it was already wavering at such gifts. But oh was she tempted.
Perhaps she could just finally gift him some mistletoe for christmas. But, Hwa Young was too headstrong for those kinds of things. But her walls were becoming like gingerbread at this point.
She wouldn't be surprised at how fast she would be to succumb to those desires. Perhaps she'd begin to count the days of her strength.
"I literally could—" She began, though Renjun's cheeky grin was enough to interrupt her from speaking anymore.
"Kiss me?" He asked, hopeful that maybe it was their time to have something intimate— without the help and influence of liquid courage.
But almost as immediate as he had spoken, she had shot him down with an unamused expression.
"—thank you a million times. And no, Renjun, it's not gonna be anytime soon," She grunted, flicking his forehead. His eyes shot closed on instinct.
Renjun opened his eyes again, suddenly appearing to glimmer a tad more under the light of their kitchen. "So, it is gonna happen later?"
Perhaps. Hwa Young's face burned a crimson red, her heart picking up its pace at his suggesting words. Yet, her lips said other wise. "Shut up, Huang," She grumbled, throwing her arms together over her chest. "May I give your gift in peace?"
She slid off her stool and began to trail down the hall. Renjun watched as her hips swayed sassily with her walk, and he couldn't help but roll his eyes at her attitude that began to do something to him.
"Yeah, yeah," He replied in defeat. He pushed off of his chair, and began to follow after his fiancée like a lost puppy.
Hwa Young could hear his bare feet pad against the wooden floor as he chased after her. "Where are we going?" He questioned, seeing her still at the front door.
The ravenette woman smiled and turned on her heels. "I'm going to need you to close your eyes," She cooed brightly, finally the mixture of excitement and nerves filtering through her blood.
Renjun watched as her smaller figure bounced up and down, and he could feel his brows furrowed in confusion. It was either she got a gift for herself but disguised it for him; so a cat, or something ridiculous that donghyuck had suggested and planned.
The male knew that the girl was aware of his disliking towards the animal and her secretary. It was always her type of gift to prank someone with wholesome intentions. So, the Huang didn't expect much behind the front door.
"Okay?" He replied, his lashes fluttering down with his lids.
Before he knew it, he heard a familiar click of the door, and Hwa Young's cold fingers came to cover his eyes as she guided him from behind.
"Don't make me fall," He grunted as the pair began to edge towards outside one step at a time. "Well, i might fall for you but not for the ground so—"
"Shut up, Renjun," She hissed through barred teeth, probably too concentrated on guiding him down the ledge of the porch. "Shit, maybe it was a bad idea to not put any shoes on first," She whined, both of their feet touching the cold cement of their front pavement.
Renjun tensed up at the sudden temperature drop and chuckled at the sounds she made, he heard her jump up and down, alternating between each foot. "You're suffering more than me," He teased however instead of a remark or a punch to his shoulder, he felt her hands remove itself from his eyes.
"Open!"
Blinking furiously, Renjun's eyes landed on a sleek, black venom motorcycle, the one he had been constantly raving about to Donghyuck and mentioned once to her. His jaw had dropped, and he felt himself swear though all the noise around him was blurred by Hwa Young's nervous laughter.
"Merry Christmas?" She greeted, confused of his reaction as he stood stiff and quiet in front of his new gift.
The silence continued for another minute, and Hwa Young began to worry that he didn't like it. She padded up to his side, grasping at his upper arm in concern. "Renjun?" She tugged at his sleeve, yet no reaction. "Do you not like it?" She fretted, her teeth clashing down on her bottom lip. "I can exchange it—"
Before she could finish her sentence, her feet suddenly left the pavement of their front driveway.
Renjun swiftly picked her up, his arms circled around her small frame and under her arms. His strength was so much that he had excitedly lifted her off the floor and spun her.
Hwa Young had no choice but to embrace his neck closely, her cheek meeting the hair of the side of his head.
"Hwa Young, haha," He screamed out her name as if like a yell of glee, and the ending began to mix with the chorus of his deep laughter.
Seeing as he acted so child-like— reminding her of the old times— the woman couldn't help but smile and laugh along. Her giggles filtered to his ear, and the male tightened his grip on her.
"Do I not like it? Are you kidding me?" He laughed enthusiastically whilst placing her down after a round of countless spinning. Staggering, the pair held onto one another a couple seconds longer, his palms to her hips as her hands remained to cup his warm neck.
Hwa Young gazed up at the male endearingly, observing as his eyes formed crescents from how large he grinned at her. There was that little thing again, the one where it fluttered the linings of her stomach as if a feather was tickling her. She felt so giddy watching as he smiled at her.
"God, Angel, I love—" His voice fell short, as the reality finally dawned on both of them. Though he swallowed back his words, and felt his heart sink— which hers did as well— Renjun continued to smile genuinely. "I love it," He whispered.
"Thank you for gifting me this," He added.
Hwa Young smiled with pursed lips. "Thank you for smiling,"
