CHAPTER FORTY
rumbles of chatter.

The shinning sun had finally begun to set; it's beautiful clear blue skies mixing like paint with oranges and pinks.

Donghyuck chuckled at yet another lame joke spilled by Hwa Young as the pair filtered into the large home— bags filled with veils, shoes and accessories crowding their arms. Their limbs had been aching from the long day.

They kicked off their shoes at the front door, and dropped the bags to the side of the hallway— traveling further into the home, in search of a certain raven haired male.

"Jun!" Hwa Young's sweet voice called, echoing in the open home. Her small feet padded against the wood flooring, thumping excitedly in search of him.

The called man felt his heart beat increase at the very sound of his name rolling off her tongue so lovingly. "In the kitchen!" He answered back— voice booming to ensure that his answer would reach her.

Undeniably, his heart swelled. Never had he thought that one day Hwa Young would come home to him, and despite it being some cliche suburban couple dream— the male's chest tightened.

Obediently, both Donghyuck and Hwa Young traveled to the open kitchen space, following the scent that had teasingly spilled into the hallway.

Emerging from behind the corridor, the pair were surprised with an unexpected view. Sure, they had known Renjun for being on a health kick, and always cooking, but tonight they had thought simple boxes of chinese take out would suffice for a long day.

However, the Huang had other thoughts in mind.

Approaching the counter, Hwa Young scanned her eyes over her fiancée's appearance. Though her orbs were tempted to look at the delicious ingredients sprawled across the counter.

His casual dress shirt and pants were topped with an apron made from canvas fabric. His messy hair was pinned back with a spare headband he had found laying around which was in fact one of Hwa Young's. And his hands were charismatically occupied; a glass of white wine had settled in his left as his right hand circled around the handle of pan— maneuvering the creamy carbonara sauce.

He greeted their gawking expression with an amused smile, his eyes momentarily disappearing.

"How did the dress shopping go?" He interviewed with interest, placing down the pan and glass of wine, to pour the two their own set of alcohol.

Hwa Young with her mouth still agape, watched in amazement as he maneuvered around the counter, filling two identical glasses with the same clear liquid.

Donghyuck glanced to his side, already pulling out a stool to get comfy in, but he couldn't help but snicker at her expression. "You're gonna catch a fly," He warned, drawing her out of her stare.

Broken out of her reverie, the woman jumped in her spot and immediately closed her mouth— a slight blush enveloping her shy cheeks.

"Yeah- yeah. Um, it went really well," She answered with a shaky tone, still trying to find a grip. But once Renjun had found his way in front of her, reaching out a solo glass to her, she had finally calmed down. She took it gratefully, and brought it to her lips where a large swig was taken. "So, did you find a nice suit?" She asked once swallowing.

The male shrugged, a sly grin still sewn onto his face. "Yeah, but you should sit down. Haven't you two been walking around all day?"

Donghyuck chuckled, reminiscing the events of the hours prior. "You should've seen the excited look on her face. Like a kid in a candy store,"

Renjun chuckled, silently pulling out a stool for his fiancée— to which the woman subconsciously sat on.

She puffed out her cheeks and rolled her eyes at the tanner's remark. "Shut up," Her cheeks burned brighter as her head swiftly turned to look away, eyes falling back to Renjun, who began to make his way back to the stove.

"Cute as always I assume," The Huang commented, earning a gag of disgust from his secretary.

"Hey, no flirting," Donghyuck scolded, tsking at the male's turned back, "I'm watching you,"

The pair watched as the raven-haired's shoulders shook with a chuckle. "Why are you even here still?"

"Did I overstay my welcome or something?" He sassed in return.

"Yes," Both Renjun and Hwa Young turned to look at the Lee, answering at the same time. Donghyuck couldn't help his facial expression as it scrunched up in a cringing manner.

"Well, too late. I'm staying for dinner," He hissed, earning yet another eye roll from Hwa Young.

His boss sighed deeply, knowing that he could say nothing to change his mind. "Not too late though, Hwa needs to sleep,"

"Yah, yah, whatever. I need my beauty sleep too," Donghyuck waved him off, then taking a swig of wine before speaking again. "Anyway, what are you guys up to tomorrow?"

"Probably just going out for some furniture," Renjun answered, returning to his cooking.

Donghyuck's nose scrunched up once more. "Hmm, an old people date,"

Hwa Young scoffed at his comment— ignoring the lingering heat of her cheeks. "It's a necessity," She remarked, glancing back at the barren living room. The light wood floors could be seen stretching across the entire ground, no couch, table or rug in sight. It was getting uncomfortable.

"It's giving sad married life," The Lee muttered, finding it weird to have such sullen dates become normalized.

"Anything with Hwa Young is exciting,"
