CHAPTER SEVEN paper trails.
unedited
Ten years ago.
Grade 11 was the worst year for both Renjun and Hwa Young.
Sure, freshmen year sucked. Hwa Young was outcasted by the girls, and Renjun was teased by the guys.
Sophomore year was bearable. The pair had garnered a stable co-gender friend group, that had yet to collapse on the lines of teenage romance and drama.
Senior, they hadn't reached yet. But it being their final year in high school, they assumed it would be the best year out of all four consecutive ones.
However, Junior year was actual hell for the two.
Not only had it began the college process for them, but life just liked to fuck with them a little more than others. Undoubtedly it was the time, they looked very different from how they reminisced each other's appearance in the summer period prior to the school year.
An unfamiliar feeling tightened in their chests that year. Perhaps it was just the realization that after high school, their hwa-huang duo was over.
Hwa Young had imagined the future of their friendship.
They'd settle on going to the same university, one preferably in the center of a city. They'd graduate together, and stay in contact until their lives weren't just about them, but about their future spouses and children too.
And after a few years of silence in their email inboxes and phone voicemails, they'd meet and pick up where they left off like nothing had happened.
