CHAPTER THIRTEEN in debt to you.
It had been a couple hours since the pair had arrived, and Renjun was ready to collapse once more as Hwa Young had lugged his body around whilst racing around the rink.
Out of nowhere, Hwa Young halted in her skates and paused in the middle of the ice. Unbeknownst to the sudden stop, Renjun collided with her stiff body and fell to the ground beneath her. "Ow-" "Oh crap, I forgot to meet with my financial advisor," Hwa Young panicked, hurriedly skating over to the exit as quick as she could— leaving her date to lay on the ice.
He lifted his head slightly, watching her figure blur past him. "Why do you need that?" He questioned aloud, confused to why she had one.
Hwa Young's walked off the ice, her ice skates clinking against the solid ground as she walked to her stuff.
She rolled her eyes at his oblivious question. Of, course the rich wouldn't know. "My student loans and debt obviously,"
Renjun huffed at her rushed figure. He spotted her through the glass barrier around the rink, running around to collect her possessions. Unsteadily, the male had finally gotten himself on his feet and awkwardly walked across to the entrance. "Well you wouldn't discuss much anyway," He grumbled, approaching her.
Halting in her movements, Hwa Young in midst of undoing her skate's laces. "What?"
Renjun neared closer to her, sitting down right at her side. "I paid off your debt," He shrugged, leaning down and removing her hands away from her shoes. He retied her laces, and leant back up.
The male felt his cheek burn with her serious gaze.
"Renjun, no," Her voice wavered. And he didn't have it in him to look at her at that moment, because his heart shook at the single noise.
"What?" He laughed, playing the situation off coolly. "I promised to help you in return for all of this,"
In a fit of frustration, Hwa Young abruptly stood. She stared down at him in disbelief. "But that's nearly over two million won! And what am I doing? Just telling off barking dogs and eating a few meals with you?" She scolded, causing the Huang's head to hang low.
He didn't understand why she felt so negatively about this.
Sighing out a large breath, Renjun stood up as well. Finally, he had looked at her since sitting down previously. And he immediately regretted it.
Glancing in her direction, he saw her eyes redden, and tears brimming them desperately. He felt like mirroring her emotions from how his heart had begun to clench tightly underneath his chest.
Renjun forgot how much it hurt, seeing this woman cry. It had been 10 years, and despite such a long time of experiencing new things and experiencing emotions that could overwhelm their young teen selves, this still had the same effect. And it overpowered all other emotions in him.
He grabbed her slender hands in his, his orbs widening at the temperature they were. Especially since they were almost unnaturally ice cold. "You're doing much more than that, for one, I'm no longer going on blind dates my mother sets me up on anymore,"
"Huang," She pouted, but he continued.
She saw his orbs shake, darting at every detail of her face. "My grandmother doesn't worry anymore,"
"But—"
"And, I get my best friend back," Renjun chuckled, watching as she began to cry and laugh at herself shortly after. And, Kwon Hwa Young was still the same sensitive teenager from however many days ago.
The dark haired woman removed one of her hands from his hold, and slapped his chest. "You jerk, you know that I'm sensitive to these kinds of things," She cried harder, the sentimental feeling of being called someone's best friend again getting at her.
He always knew the right words.
Renjun could only foolishly grin at her. Because simply, that's what he was in that second in time. Nothing but a fool.
Because his mind debated over helping her to wipe her tears or continuing to comfort her with holding her hand. And he had never had such a heated debate with himself, that he ended up doing both.
Renjun's left hand found Hwa Young's cheek. And surprisingly, as he wiped her stray tears away with his thumb, the woman leaned into his palm— craving the nostalgic warmth.
Wings tickled his stomach, and they didn't stop.
"I've gotten my family off my back. Honestly, if I weren't to be engaged soon my position would've likely gone to my cousin or something, so you're doing the most for me too," He whispered, staring adoringly into her reddish eyes.
"I still feel that this isn't fair," She pouted, her coral bottom lip jutted out.
"Just," He paused, choosing his words correctly. "Act like you love me, and i'll forever be in debt to you," Oh how Renjun was a greedy fool.
