It wasn't hard winning her back.

After Maddy's birthday, Cassie had been left even more confused than she was to begin with. Then on Sunday night, Nate had asked her to meet up.

A part of her wished she had the strength to turn him down. To run far away. To confess all to Maddy and rid herself of Nate Jacobs and all this heartache.

But his emotional inconsistency had her addicted to the temporary highs. And when Nate gave her love, she would do anything to receive it.

Problem was, Nate knew this.

"Was it all a lie?" She had asked, sitting in the front seat of his car.

"I meant everything I said."

"Even when you said it to Maddy?"

"Cassie." She could hear the exasperation in his voice.

A part of her wanted to just accept what he said, scared of pushing him away. The other part lived in eternal turmoil, fearing she was just some distraction, some game.

"Nate, I am risking everything for this. I need to know this is real."

"I need you to trust me, okay?" His large hands had grabbed her face gently, his brown eyes piercing through her watery pupils. "I love you."

"I love you too."

And as she fell into his web once again, she tried to push away all the fears and insecurities she had. How could he look into her eyes and promise her the world if he didn't mean it?

There was no denying Nate was handsome enough to be able to hook up with any girl at East Highland, so why pick Cassie?

She knew boys didn't like drama, so it didn't make sense he would pick a situation that would cause so much distress if he didn't genuinely have feelings for her.

Or maybe it was a power game. A challenge. Fucking two best friends, destroying their lives.

It was sad that Maddy and Cassie, who loved each other so much, would be losing it all for one guy who probably didn't love either one of them enough.

That night, as Cassie lay in Nate's arms, he had whispered sweet words in her ear all night. He had promised her it was not all in vain. He had mentioned tying up loose ends with Maddy. What loose ends? He hadn't elaborated on that, and by the time his lips had found hers and his finger entered her it all didn't matter anymore.

And Nate? Well he had her exactly where he wanted her.

Be my medal and I will wear you all night
