September 18, 1996

Waiting and waiting, I've been watching on Steven sleeping all morning. Actually been alternating with both Axl and his mom, going on day 5 now and no progress has been made. It's not like I wasn't already worried, but now I'm even more on edge and scared for whatever the outcome is. Work has been catching up with me since I'm not completely focused on any of the deadlines or paperwork for new remodeling on the building, Bella hasn't been happy with me missing her gymnastics practice meets so now I'm borderline bad mom for that. Looking at my watch it's 11:38am and nearly time up for me to get ready to switch, searching my bag to find my phone I'm not focused on the sudden movement from the opposite side of the room

"Oh shit hold on let me get a nurse, don't move too much" throwing the bag down forgetting the phone stepping outside "Excuse me, he's awake"

"Really, is he talking?" the doctor asks coming in closing the door "Mr Adler, you continue to surprise me"

"Continues, why am I not surprised by this" mumbling to myself so they don't hear

"He won't be able to go home anytime soon, he suffered a lot from this experience"

"A lot how exactly, like what's in store for him now?"

"We're talking rehabilitation, he's going to need to learn basic ways of life again. Like his speech is slurred for one that's a no brainer, we need to make sure he doesn't have episodes sort of like seizures, restart his balance if it's bad and get some form of motion and blood flow back into his right side of the face"

"That's a lot" really taking in his words of all what they have to do, moving over to the bed to stare at Steven it's not like he can talk but that's okay

"It is pricey but-

"Money isn't an issue it's the work that I'm referring to, how long would you say this could take and how tough is this gonna be?"

"About 3 months depends on how well and smooth the recovery he's making, for all we know he could be a fast learner"

"Have you spoke to his mom about this yet?"

"We gave her some options, well since Mr Adler is awake we can switch rooms probably come tomorrow or later today"

"That's fine do you need me to move out of the way?"

"Actually yes if you don't mind, need to have some nurses in checking him over"

Nodding I grab my things and move out the room standing by on the opposite side of the wall back searching for my phone to call Deanna for one and Axl to let them know he's awake, hitting something with lots of buttons I manage to grab it and roll my eyes that I've found it now when I least am focused on it

1:19pm

Pushing past the elevator doors I run straight into Jackie seeing her with a stack of folders

"Hey n/n, how was today anything good or any changes?"

"Yeah he's awake and there's a long road to recovery and lots of rehab" nodding staring at my shoes "What are you doing with those?"

"Gotta look over some sketches and see if I can get any inspiration from these to make something new, also we finished photos down in floor 2 so we're not as busy today"

"Really I feel like I'm behind on everything" frustrated with myself rolling my eyes

"Well you got a lot on your plate lately so we didn't expect you to be done so easily, also I wanna talk with you about my vacation week coming up" she squeaks out timidly following me to my office
