Todoroki's POV

We arrived at Hawks' agency, but it wasn't upstairs where the apartment complexes were, we were heading down in the elevator. He checked in with the front desk in a panic, only having me following whatever he was doing.

I could care less if that scumbag would scold me for not being home on time, as long as Mei would be in good conditions, I would be off.

Mei was put in a stretcher, Hawks and I accompanied her by her side. The elevator was quite large, and I stood by the back corner. I had my hands in my pockets, and eavesdropped on their conversation, it was difficult to make out what the two were saying under their own whispers.

"I didn't think it would happen so soon. Is there still some time left to stop her?" Hawks leaned over to the nurse on the other end of her stretcher.

"With whatever her boyfriend did to her, we might just be able to put it on a pause."

The elevator doors opened, and the nurse took her down the hall, both me and Hawks following after. They turned into a room, where she handed Mei off to another doctor. She halted the both of us. "We'll take her from here. It'll take at least an hour and half to complete the procedure."

"Thank you." The nurse nodded at the Pro-Hero. She entered the room and closed the door behind her.

"Kid, let's talk while walking, yeah?" He looked at me and I nodded. I'm not sure what I got myself into.

We headed to a private investigation room, he led me inside as I looked around at it. Bland. He carefully shut the door behind him. There was a small shelf in the corner that had a small plant on top.

"What's going on with her?" I finally spoke up, clutching onto my bag.

"First off, I wanted to thank you for cooling her off. Whatever you did made the nurses jobs a lot easier." A heavy sigh escaped his lips. "Second, now that you basically saved her life, I think it's time for you to know.

That high temperature of hers was no fever. You might have thought so, but it was far from it," He rested his hand on the chair in front of him, and he took a seat. "I advise you to take a seat for this one." He was the sarcastic hero everyone knew, when it came to his family, he was serious.

He explained her situation. Her past that my scumbag had mentioned to me. That horrible and torturous past that I never thought would be true. But here I was, hearing it from none other than her brother. My eyes were only widened, shocked. I had no words for her story. "After this procedure, she probably won't remember it happened." He then pointed at her stuff I still held onto.

"Did she take any photos from today?" He asked. I took out her camera and turned it on.

"She did, plenty enough."

"Choose two for her. I'm not sure how much it'll impact her memory. If two aren't enough, show her some others." He was calm, like he knew it was going to happen eventually, just not this soon.

"The school is already aware of her condition, and Todoroki," His hands folded as he looked me straight in the eye, "I know you two aren't close, but please. Can you watch out for her? You're the only one who knows about this."

He pauses for a few moments, taking a few breaths before continuing, "There's a lot to explain, yes I know, but you have to trust both me and Yami on this."

I nodded my head with no thought, "I will. Thank you for putting your trust in me for this sir." I kept my hands on the desk, holding onto her camera.

But it was hard to wrap my head around. I had so many more questions, some overlapping one another. "Just call me Takami. It's fine with me,"

"Oh, and there is one more thing I would like to ask of you Todoroki..."

---

She had finally awakened from her procedure. It was only 5 PM, and still no messages from that bastard. I had her camera ready as I waited outside, her brother was inside checking up on her making sure her memory was intact.

I looked down at the camera and examined every inch of it carefully. I had the strap around my neck to make sure that it wouldn't fall. It was a small, yet simple camera.

Mr. Takami came out of the room, and gave me a thumbs up, "Her memory seems to be fine, but she did request to talk to you."

I straightened my posture. As the Pro slipped out the door leaving it open for me, I let myself inside her room. I let the door close behind me, and I see her sitting up from her bed.

She was looking out the window, her hair looked combed and not tangled. When she realized I was in the room, she smiled at me. "Todoroki,"

I walked to the edge of her bed and placed a hand on the railing, her camera still around my neck. "It's relieving to see you in good condition, Mei." I told her. She still kept her soft smile on her face.

"Worried about me I see..." She teased. Well, of course I was worried about her. "Can I see my camera please?"

As I was about to remove it from my neck, she fixed her position on her bed to face her body towards me. She took the camera from around my neck, making her face inches away from mine at first.

Her eyes were probably the most beautiful irises I've ever seen.

"I just wanted to look through the photos of today," She paused for a moment, retrieving back to her old position on the hospital bed. "Now that I think about it, it's pretty funny how we hated each other's guts this morning,

And now, look at us! We're good friends now, all in the span of a day too!"

"I agree that we do get along just fine." I adjusted my bag resting on my shoulder. As we had a comfortable silence blanketing each other's presence, I watched her scroll through her camera roll and took a look through the pictures she took. It made me wonder if she really did lose a part of her memory, but she wasn't aware of it.

The reactions to her pictures would only tell the answer to my ponders.

I could tell she didn't mind my presence by her bedside. It was either that, or she pretended that I wasn't even there. Whatever made her comfortable, it did not affect my views on her. She was still a mysterious girl with a lot of unanswered questions; the public only being able to scratch the surface of the things she had been through.

It was for the best.

I heard the door open that revealed the nurse, "You should be discharged shortly, Miss Mei." She held onto the edge of the frame as she peaked her head inside. "You and your brother just need to fill out some papers first. Mr. Todoroki, you are free to wait outside her room in the waiting room."

She was talking about me. I nodded my head in correspondence and left the room, leaving Mei behind. I knew I would see her soon after, making me feel a little relieved.

As I exited her room, her brother was already outside and he greeted me with a confirming nod. I returned his gesture and he passed by me, entering Mei's room along with her nurse who held a clipboard with some files attached to it.

With that, she disappeared behind the door.
