Yami's POV
Todoroki threw the first punch in my direction and I quickly swerved to avoid it. I fixed my position, fists close to my face, and brought my guard up more.
I wasn't going easy on him today either.
The spar was going by quick, with each short move made towards one another. Continuous kicks and punches until someone were to admit defeat.
Regardless of his power with his quirk, I conceded with the fact he has his strength on his own. If his quirks were taken away from him, I believe he would be fine without them. Todoroki was a good sparring partner to have around.
I thought of this while constantly dodging his streaks of swings.
The Commission focused little on my physical strength, instead, it was mainly about my quirks abilities because they saw it as a more fit thing to improve on. It was actually very little training I went through that concerned melee combat.
They told me that my fighting was decent; but also stated that I relied heavily on my quirk to do the work, as most of my moves had included the strategy of using my dark matter. Nevertheless, that didn't mean I still couldn't try.
But with every time they saw improvement, the more difficult the training got for me.
I wouldn't admit I'm poor with it, I'm decent and still learning. But I know that when I have the time on my own after the sports festival, the Commission would be dying to conduct their assessments on me.
There was a short opening for me to finally land a punch. I remember my instructor told me when someone were to continuously throw punches at you, they'll eventually get tired and wear themselves out.
Which was what Todoroki was doing.
He attempted a punch near my stomach area, but I finally regained some speed and balance. I moved out of the way from his arm and everything went in slow motion for me.
I grabbed his arm, he had a quick look of surprise in his eyes as I used the rest of my strength to flip him over.
I threw his body on the ground. He was facing upwards, which meant I would have to get on top of him to restrain both his arms just to win this round.
As his back made contact with the ground, I dived in to grab both his arms and hold them outwards so they couldn't touch the rest of his body.
I was almost hovering over him, not completely resting myself on his stomach, but it was enough weight to keep him still. I hoped he would stay that way for just a few more seconds.
I looked down into his mismatched eyes and we made brief eye contact. Both of us were panting heavily with the amount of work we put ourselves through just to get to this moment. I could see small sweat drops on his forehead and around his face.
My thoughts felt like they got louder while admiring his facial features, I couldn't help but murmur something out loud I wish would have stayed in my mouth.
"Beautiful."
Todoroki snapped out of his trance of looking at me and I could feel him grab my arms. Shit.
He used all his strength to flip me over on my back. This time, he was on top of me, holding my arms and legs down so I didn't escape. His grip was tight, not letting me leave under him.
His face was directly above mine. Todoroki still managed to look ethereal as ever, making my face feel flushed.
We both knew it had been more than five seconds, yet he still didn't let me go.
