inspired by havin a Good Chat with currently: vernon cult and i just got the feels and decided to write soonyoung adoring jihoon for real
•••
if you asked soonyoung where his favourite place in the world was, he'd say the library. just a bunch of people needing their own personal, quiet little space to do what they need. whether it's studying, reading, listening to music or simply just hanging out in the calming atmosphere of the hall filled with books. books that tell stories, whether fantastical or not, books that hold your hand and walk alongside you in your new hobby or job. books that speak messages and experiences to anyone willing to pick it up and read.
"and also lee jihoon," he'd say with a shy smile. what do you mean? "oh uh- i also like the library because of lee jihoon."
a further prompting "why?" would have him answer curtly, even if he wanted to say more. he'd word it carefully, hoping you'd ask to elaborate. and that would be where he'd explode.
as part of his routine, soonyoung accompanied jihoon to the library for relaxation time. jihoon had a busy schedule and needed time to focus on himself. so, three hours were built into his schedule every wednesday. free time for him and it was soonyoung's favourite time of the week.
when he accompanied jihoon, soonyoung didn't do much. sometimes he brought work, other time he brought games or just went on his phone. jihoon rarely accepted soonyoung's disturbances, "this is me time, soonie. don't talk unless it's important." he had said once. soonyoung obeyed him well.
with jihoon absorbed into a well picked novel, soonyoung had the chance to just look at him and take him all in. he liked to see what jihoon was wearing that day, and make assumptions to how he came up with it. in the same vein, he liked to see how his hair was styled.
he observed jihoon. that was his job.
as his closest friend, soonyoung felt it was his duty to know all about jihoon. and all the nuances of having such a high privilege to be jihoon's closest companion. so free time on wednesdays was soonyoung's work time.
three hours wasn't long if you're trying to get details. tick tock.
what came as a shocking surprise last week was jihoon's new hairstyle. it was much shorter now, a sharp black adding edge to his silhouette. it didn't stop him from having it slicked back and it was what made soonyoung stutter over his words last week. he looked too good.
today it wasn't slicked, but relaxed. soonyoung preferred this more. he'd rather not have a heart attack anytime jihoon looked him in the eye.
"remember, soonie. don't disturb me unless it's an emergency, okay?" soonyoung nodded with a thumbs up and jihoon immersed himself in the time-stained pages of a novel he hadn't yet touched. soonyoung carefully watched his best friend sink into this new, imaginary setting. from the looks of the cover and the title, it was some thriller book. soonyoung could ask about it after.
but now it was time to get to work.
soonyoung always wondered how jihoon sat so straight when he blanked into a book. capture soonyoung at any moment, and he's hunched like a damn croissant. but jihoon stayed perfectly still, like he had been imported into the world of the book he had picked up. it was quite amazing, actually.
his outfit today was simple but cute. well- soonyoung thought anything jihoon wore was cute. he wondered how jihoon could dress so well given he never cared much for fashion or trends. regardless, he was always able to pick colours and styles that suited him and his stupidly pale, unassuming body type...
