Asking for a Friend

We do to each other what we say to each other,

We say to each other what can't be done for each other.

*consequential abstraction*

We hold accountable those we can catch,

And turn from footprints that won't match.

*consequential selection*

We make the choices that aren't enough,

And bear the burden of a dying cough.

*consequential inaction*

We talk a lot and said have plenty,

Who cares enough that our towns are empty?

*consequential distraction*

We eat enough of our words to puke,

And wait for the dirtiest hand to nuke.

*consequential protraction*

No heroes here, so wait for the end.

All things will settle, once we've drowned our friend.

*consequential destruction*

Then we stop, fall silent.

All minds are quiet.
