For all the hype, Beca was surprised to learn city league volleyball was strangely informal. Most teams showed up, played their games, and then went home. However, with Aubrey, Fat Amy, and even Emily, nothing was simple. It was like an all-day thing. The girls insisted that they get ready together before the game. Then they insisted that they went to dinner as a team afterward. Dinner often led to drinks at Benji's Bar. Since there were two or three games a week, that meant two or three nights a week the team was together. Not counting the extra practices Aubrey wanted to have.

On top of it all, there was a strange power struggle between Aubrey and Emily. What was also strange was all the weird sexual tensions that existed within the small friend group. It had taken Beca a little while to figure it all out, but she was pretty sure she had finally got it. Benji liked Cora. Cora didn't like Benji back. But Emily liked Benji. Also, Stacie liked Aubrey. But Jesse also liked Aubrey. Aubrey liked them both and was constantly flirting with both of them. Fat Amy thought herself the hottest of the group and therefore was above them all.

It all would have been unbearable for the smaller brunette if it weren't for Chloe. The bubbly redhead was Beca's person. She made sure that Beca was comfortable and felt included. In return, Beca was with her as much as possible wherever they were at. They were best friends, but it was more than that.

Beca was totally lost in the moment as her team was warming up for their game.

"Shit," Chloe breathed out as the other team entered the gym.

Beca looked to see what might be wrong but only saw another co-ed team that looks just like theirs. But there was no doubt Chloe saw someone she wasn't expecting as the redhead had a worried look on her face.

"Chloe?" Beca asked.

"It's nothing," The redhead said, playing nervously with the ring on her thumb.

Beca looked back over at the other team and saw one of them was making her way over towards the group. She was a tall woman with short blonde hair. Without thinking, Chloe reached out with her right hand and grabbed Beca's left hand, squeezing it just tight enough to let Beca know she was upset.

"Blair-Bare, get your skinny ass over here, " Fat Amy yelled.

"Oh my god, It's Blair!" Cora yelled.

"Hey, look who it is," Aubrey said.

Everyone seemed excited to see the blonde except for Chloe. The redhead found herself trying to hide behind the smaller Beca. Blair took her time hugging and greeting Chloe's friend. Eventually, the Blonde woman broke away from the group and headed towards Chloe. Beca felt the redhead's hand slip out of hers as the other woman got closer.

"Hey, Chloe-Bare," The blonde woman smirked as she pulled Chloe in for a hug.

"Hey Blair," Chloe responded, afraid to make eye contact.

"Who's your friend?"

"Oh, this is Beca," Chloe said with a soft smile, which melted Beca's heart.

"Hey," Beca said, trying to read the situation.

"Hey, cutie," Blair said with a wink before turning her attention back to Chloe. "Chlo, can I talk to you in private?"

"We can talk in front of Beca. She and I don't have any secrets," Chloe said, faking a smile.

"I'm sure you don't, but this is personal, and I don't know her," Blair snapped.

Chloe nodded before sheepishly following Blair out of the gym.

"Who was that?" Beca asked once the pair was gone.

"Awe, Beca's upset Chloe is giving someone else attention," Stacie teased, causing Beca to give her a death stair,
