Chloe was relieved to be dropping Jamie off at the airport a week later. She hadn't really spoke to any of her friends or even her sister since she left. Chloe had felt completely alone and she knew it was all her fault. All she did was go to work and come home to Jamie which wasn't very fun. He would even drop her off and pick her up from work since he didn't really have anything else to do. His explanation though was that he wanted to spend as much time with her as he could before he went back to work.
"Be good, okay?" Jamie asked from the passenger seat.
Chloe nodded and just kept her eyes on his shirt, not wanting to make eye contact.
"I love you, Chloe," he said pulling her into a kiss. "I don't know how long I'll be gone or when I'll get to talk to you next so it might be awhile."
"Okay," she said softly and watched as he exited the car and grabbed his suitcase before heading into the airport without a second look.
Chloe let out a breath as she leaned her head back for a second to compose herself. It was a rough week and Chloe definitely didn't feet like herself. She caught herself in the review mirror and she didn't recognize who she was anymore. She was a broken version of herself and she didn't like it. Jamie had told her to put on some makeup that morning because according to him, she didn't look good. She didn't argue with him and just did as she was asked. She had another bruise on her chin from him gripping her so hard and no matter how much she put on, the makeup wouldn't cover the bruise entirely.
A car honking pulled her out of her thoughts and she looked back to see a white truck waiting to pull up. She quickly put the car in drive and made her way out of the parking lot and as far away from the airport as she could.
She drove the hour drive back to her house in silence, thinking about her life. How did she get here? Never in her life did she think she would be a victim of domestic violence but yet here she was. Was her love for Jamie not enough? They were so good together in high school but now she just seems to make him mad all the time and she pays the price for it. She was in medical school; only one more year left before she had the career of her dreams. But she quit because Jamie wanted her to. But he loved her and he asked her to do it for them. They needed to save money for their wedding after all.
As soon as she stepped inside, she got a text. She sat her keys and purse down before fishing her phone out of her pocket. She smiled when she saw Beca's name on her screen. The younger woman had tried to get a hold of her a few times this past week, but Chloe was with Jamie and didn't want to give him any excuse to yell or hit her.
Beca: Hey! It's been a few days but I just wanted to see if you wanted to come over? Cora isn't here and I miss you.
Chloe just reread the last few words as if taking her eyes away would kill her. She felt a stray tear fall and quickly wiped it away before texting the brunette back.
Chloe: Yeah, just give me a few minutes. I just got home from dropping Jamie off at the airport.
The redhead bit her lip before typing out a second message and pressing send.
Chloe: I miss you too.
Her heart began beating faster out of excitement and happiness. She let Sunshine out to use the bathroom while she went around and made sure to clean up some things Jamie left out before changing into a pair of jeans and a long sleeve shirt. She sprayed on a little perfume and made sure her hair looked okay before running back downstairs. She let Sunshine back in before giving her a treat and grabbing her keys and purse, heading back out of the door.
"Hey," Beca smiled when she opened the door to see Chloe standing there.
"Hi," the redhead responded, gently hugging the brunette. "Look, I want to apologize for the way I acted at Denny's and also this past week."
