Chapter Twenty-Four
I sit on the couch for a while. Taking in everything I just saw and heard. After a minute, my phone rings. “Hello?” I answer.
“Hey it’s Josh,” I hear.
“Oh hi.”
“Turn on MTV.”
“I just turned it off,” I say as I put the bowl of soup on the coffee table. “I’m not turning it back on either.”
“Alright,” Josh says funny. “But they keep replaying the bit with you pouring coffee on Danny. It’s actually really funny.”
“I’m not watching it. I don’t like what they said before, Josh.”
I hear Josh take a sigh. “It’s fine, Scarlett. Ignore it all. If it’s not true, just know that you know the truth. And the things they said about you is crap. Ignore it.”
“It’s what everyone in school said. Lunatic. Crazy. Mad. Almost all those things. The only thing I didn’t mind was the fact you set up the getting-signed thing.”
“Oh, crap. Live footage now,” Josh says.
“What would they be getting live footage of?” It only take a second for me to realize that Josh would only tell me that if they were watching me. I move to my window in my music room, and look right into the camera there. “My life is not your business. Josh’s life isn’t your business. No one else’s life is your business. Back off,” I say. I close the curtain and walk back to the couch.
“I love you,” Josh says. “That was cool.”
“Yeah whatever.” I really want to change the subject. “When should I call Richard?” I ask.
“Now. When I hang up, you call him okay?”
“Josh. No. I-.” Josh hangs up, and I let a laugh escape my mouth a little. I dial the number from the card, and wait.
“Hello,” A friendly male voice answers. “Sunset Records. How can I help you?”
“Is Richard Kelvins there?” I ask. “He met me yesterday. My name is Scarlett Marr.”
“One moment please.” I wait for a couple minutes, and then I hear Richards voice.
“Scarlett!” he says. “Have you made up your mind?”
Crap. I didn’t think of what I would say. “Actually I haven’t. I just wanted more details first,” I spit out.
“Okay. Um, why don’t you come down here and I can tell you everything?”
“Okay. When?”
“Is now okay? I haven’t been doing anything all day.”
“Sure.”
Richard hangs up. I get into other clothes, a simple T-Shirt, jeans, and sneakers, and start driving over to the studio. Once I get there, I look at the glassy-white building I parked in front of. Fountains on either side of the area in front of the building to. On the top is the logo and name, which is a line and a half circle representing a sunset, and then “Sunset Records.”
