I could feel the sedative start to take effect as I swayed on my feet. I blinked several times to clear my vision before I studied my new cell. The walls were made of reflective glass. Under closer inspection, I began to suspect that it wasn't just glass but windows that allowed people to peer at me without my knowledge. The room had five walls in total and formed a near-perfect pentagon. Four walls were made out of the suspected one-way glass, and the last one was only wide enough to fit the door where I had entered. The room was incredibly spacious, a dramatic improvement from my previous cell.
There was a pillar in the middle of the space that had monitors and cameras mounted on it. At its base, there was a medical table and a chair with restraints. I shifted nervously on my feet. I could already feel eyes on me, and paranoia slowly started to creep up my body. When I tried to step forward to study the room in greater detail, I faltered and nearly tumbled over. My vision swam. Eventually, I regained my balance enough to start exploring the room.
I was startled when I caught some movement in my peripheral vision and whipped around. There, in front of me, stood something straight out of the depths of hell. I panicked for a few moments before my mind registered it was my reflection.
My hair, which was once short, straight and thin, was now long, wavy, and thick. My irises were the same color blue they had always been, but they'd morphed and looked more electrified due to the rest of my eye being black. My face was thinner than I remembered, which made my facial features more pronounced. My skin was a dark ashy gray and, in some places, seemed to darken to black creating highlights. My body struck me as odd, my midriff was longer than an average human, and my heels elongated to the point that they no longer touched the ground. This caused the balls of my feet and toes to widen and thicken to compensate for the weight shift. I had to stop myself from hurling. I looked monstrous.
I felt my legs start to give out from underneath me due to the sedative, so I used the wall as support as I lowered myself to the ground. I'd be damned if I was going to let myself fall asleep. I wouldn't let myself close my eyes in fear that this time I might not ever open them again. I recognized that my life hadn't been a great one, but I also knew I didn't want to die.
I wasn't sure how much time had passed, but I was jerked back to reality when the door to the room was thrown open abruptly, causing it to crash against the wall behind it violently. I quickly pulled myself up off the floor when I saw three people in white lab coats enter. To my horror, I immediately recognized one as my father.
I caught the look of surprise that flashed across his face when he saw me. He quickly replaced it with annoyance. "I see that you are still awake," He stated gruffly. "You should've received enough sedative to put down a horse."
"What can I say? I'm built different." I snicker lightly, swaying on my feet. He huffed in response and turned to the other scientists.
"Make sure to increase the dosage of sedative in the future." He said while turning his attention back onto me. He studied me very closely before continuing. "You have no intention of making this easy, do you?" He questioned with a bored look in his eye.
