"W–What the fuck!" I rolled my eyes at his reaction.
"Yes, yes, I get it, big and scary, now tell me everything you know." I point my gun at the captain.
"I don't know what you mean. I only—!"
"Now we both know what your going to say next is a lie, no more of the I'm-innocent-and-naive bullshit, I don't have the patience or the time."
"Y–You killed them all." He cried, backing further into the cockpit.
"Yes, I did, and you'll be next if you don't start talking!" Regardless of whether he decided to talk or not, he would die, but I didn't tell him that. I hoped I could get some vital information from him.
"You're going to kill me anyway!" Ugh, this was going to be annoying. I should probably kill him, I thought to myself.
"You're right, but how quick you die is up to you." I regressed as I aimed for his leg and shot him. He fell to the ground in a heap, wailing in agony.
"Oh, shut up! It'll only get worse." I yelled, stalking my way toward him. I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him up off the floor. "The other leg will be next unless you start talking," I said as I pressed the gun barrel against his thigh.
"F–Fine! I–I'll tell you. What do you want to know!?"
"I need access to the vessel database, cameras, and control system," I state while dragging him toward what I assumed was the control system; which stood in the middle of the room. The desk was crescent-shaped with a wheel at its center. Hundreds of buttons and levers filled the rest of its surface.
"I can't access them once the emergency protocol is in place. It shuts down the entire ship to ensure if a breach occurs that the ship would be practically useless." I could feel myself start to lose my cool. I did not go through all this shit just to be stranded!
"Could it be overridden?"
"Possibly, but the system would have to be manually rewired, and even after that, there's no guarantee that it will come back online!" I groaned loudly. I couldn't possibly have predicted this! Finally, I let him go, and he dropped to the ground with a yelp.
I pressed my fingers to the bridge of my nose, trying to alleviate the pressure. "Okay, okay, let's do that."
"Huh...I can't do it. I know nothing about the electrical grid! You killed the only person that did!" I laughed; of course, I had!
"Surely, there is another way to get off this fucking ship." I seethed. They wouldn't just risk being stranded if there was a breach, right? They must have had a way to leave a ship after it became compromised, or were they okay with being left for dead?
"There are emergency transports on the lower deck. But without getting the ship online, you wouldn't be able to exit the loading dock."
"That's good enough for me," I say, grabbing him again and dragging him with me back towards the elevator.
"What are you doing? I answered your questions!" He screeched at me loudly. I jerked him hard in response while rubbing the side of my head.
"So eager to die, are you? I promise you'll meet your end, but you are of more use to me alive than dead now." He didn't respond. Instead, he gave up trying to stop me and went limp.
When we got to the elevator, I pressed my badge to the scanner without thinking. It opened. I stilled as I felt anger consume me. If the ship was offline, why was the elevator working? I found myself chuckling loudly, and before I knew it, I was laughing hysterically.
"You know...you almost succeeded in fooling me. Did you not think I'd notice and piece it together?" I raise him to my eye level, his feet barely touching the floor. "If the ship was offline, that means that nothing would work. You. Lied!" He only grunted in response.
"It was worth a try. I have no intention of helping filth like you." I smiled maliciously at him before I stepped into the elevator and pressed the button to take us to the vessel's lowest floor.
"What are you doing? You're not going to kill me?"
"Not yet. I have other plans for you." I mutter. I went back to figuring out the next steps of my plan. I knew that I wasn't the only test subject. During all the carnage, I didn't find any signs of other test subjects on the floors above. That only left the final floor. I was almost sure that the large room I saw on the navigator was where they might be.
The elevator door slid open. The sight before me caused my body to erupt into goose flesh. There were bodies piled up against the wall in front of me. I glanced over at the button I pushed, which was the correct one. I observed the bodies for a moment while forcefully holding the elevator open. I quickly confirmed that I wasn't the one that did this when I saw the gunshot wounds on their bodies.
I peeked my head out of the elevator. There was only one direction I could go, and that was to my left. I frowned, put the gun under my arm, and reached for the navigation device. Once it was on, I realized no halls were indicated on the screen. Just one large room was displayed in the middle of the device.
When I tried to set the destination, an error message popped up stating that 'no such coordinates existed.' I growled in frustration. Someone other than me was wandering around, keen on killing people. I didn't want to go in blind, but I didn't have many options. I assumed this floor would be like the second floor, constructed with elaborate halls and corridors.
I had to start somewhere. I put the navigation device away and grabbed my gun before I exited the elevator and headed down the hall, dragging the captain behind me. I glanced down at him to check and see if he was still alive. "Do you know how to navigate this floor?" I asked, deciding to give it a shot. I heard him huff and felt him move his head to look at our surroundings before he answered.
"Just stick to the right." He mumbled quietly before closing his eyes with a groan. I followed his instructions. While walking down the halls, I opened doors and inspected every room I came across. Most looked like surgical rooms, while the others were closets and small offices.
I was jolted out of my thoughts when a male voice rang through the halls. "Ryn!?" I whipped around to look behind me and slowly poked my head around the corner of a corridor I had just passed to my left. I saw figures rapidly approaching and readied myself to aim and shoot.
"Don't shoot!" They said, holding their hands above their head while still approaching.
"It's Ron!"
"—and Jaxon!"
"Ha, what the hell?" I croaked out before lowering the weapon and waiting for them to reach me. When they did, they were huffing and out of breath.
"We caught sight of you in the cameras and decided to try to catch up to you."
