After we were assigned guards, Ra let us explore the city. Origin was its name. It was called that because this was the original city on this planet that cultivated a rare mineral called Black Ore. This mineral was used to make all of their buildings and ships. When melted down, the ore became lightweight and could be altered to absorb solar energy. It was this energy that powered the entire city. The city was a massive solar panel, absorbing and converting the energy to power most of the world.
The five of us and our escorts were shopping for necessities such as clothing and toiletries before heading to our new homes. Emily is assigned to Glee, the hybrid Zorr. The twins were assigned Stahl, a hybrid. Georgia was assigned Zolar, who was entirely Zorr.
I was assigned to Ezic. I hadn't exactly figured out what he is, but he was undoubtedly part Zorr. He was reserved, deathly quiet, and hadn't spoken a word so far. I'm not quite sure if he could speak. I didn't ask. When I spoke to him or asked questions, they only consisted of yes or no questions, as he only offered curt nods and shakes of his head in response. I found my eyes following him a lot. He was eerily beautiful. Occasionally he would catch me staring, and we would spend a few moments in awkward silence. I hope he didn't find my staring completely rude.
"Earth to Ryn, hey." Georgia shook my shoulder slightly, knocking me out of my thoughts.
"How does this look?" She spun in a circle to show off the dress that she'd picked out. It was a beautiful embroidered blue fabric that hung off the shoulders and ended just above her ankles.
"It fits you well." I say, looking around the shop. Ezic and Zolar accompanied us while the others ran off to other booths and surrounding stores.
"Is that all your going to get?" Georgia asked, glancing down at my hands that held a neatly folded pair of pants and a similarly matching shirt.
"Maybe." I quickly scanned the rest of the store to see if anything caught my eye. Unfortunately, the clothing selections weren't my style. They were entirely hand-made and embroidered. Although they were beautiful, they didn't appeal to me. I wanted simple clothing and nothing that would draw attention to myself. Other than a couple of shirts and pants, I only had a handful of undergarments. Nothing else. On the other hand, Georgia was completely different and seemed to be the type to like attention.
"I have all I need." I say, turning and making my way over to the clerk to have my purchases rung up. Behind me, Ezic walked up and gave the merchant a couple of coins. We walked out of the store and waited for Zolar and Georgia to finish shopping. I took a deep breath of the warm air and exhaled slowly. The air was also different here. On Earth, you couldn't breathe deeply without causing a coughing fit due to the polluted atmosphere. It was quite literally a breath of fresh air.
"This place is so different from where I come from." I talked to Ezic, mostly because I knew he would listen."From what I remember of my homeworld, it was so difficult to breathe. Here it's not. It's nice." I didn't have to look over at Ezic to know that he was staring at me. "It's so lively here, and I like how nature is left to do its own thing." I indicated to some of the black ancient-looking buildings with purple shrubbery, grass, and vines around us. The city roads were entirely made of dirt and grass, which I thought was odd. I came to like how the city allowed nature to take back what was rightfully theirs. I also guessed that it was like this because almost everyone didn't wear shoes.
