"Please

"Please. Don't get me angry." I plead as I try to compose myself. Deep down, some dark part of me wanted Elik to push me. That primal part of me paced in the back of my mind, waiting and watching.

"Why is that?" He asks. Something in his tone rubbed me the wrong way, and I forced back a sneer. I dropped my gaze to my lap and focused on my clenched hands. Why did I anger so easily? How did he anger me so quickly? What was it about him that set me off?

"Was that why you killed him, Zolar? Because you were angry?" Elik stated, and I snapped my head up to meet his eyes. The sneer I had tried to hide flew onto my face at the mention of Zolar.

"He deserved it."I muttered darkly.

"It's not within your jurisdiction to decide what he deserved!" Elik slammed his hands onto the metal table, making it creak resoundingly under the force. Usually, it would have surprised me, but at that moment, I was prepared for anything.

"My and Ezic's life hung in the balance, and I chose for us to live. Zolar's blood may be on my hands but his death isn't on my conscious." I said while standing up slowly and supporting myself with my arms against the table, Leaning forward, our faces almost touching in a show of dominance.

"I regret nothing!" I state. Elik's entire aura changed into a much lighter one at this declaration. The intense look on his face molded into one of calmness as he backed off.

"Good." Elik stated, to my surprise. He smiled broadly down at me before continuing. "It is good to know your loyalty to Chief Q'halezic is unwavering." I stared up at him dumbfounded. So this had all just been a test?

"Now the reason why we brought you in today wasn't to test you. It was to let you know That Krispar Division, The Planetary Council, and I have teamed up on the investigation into the experiments."

"Why?" I ask plainly. There was nothing in it for him, or anyone for that matter. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that there wasn't anything in it for anyone besides the girls and myself. "Whats in it for you?"

A dark smile formed on Elik's face, his eyes staring me down with a tiny merciless glint. The quick change in his demeanor gave me chills. "I'm not particularly fond of Regusra, nor was I of Zolar. Besides my personal interest in the matter, Regusra might have broken one of the most fundamental laws known to this day!"

"What law are you speaking of?" I question while sitting back down in the metal chair.

"As I'm sure you've heard, our people fled to this planet in hopes to exploit the planet's rare mineral. There was a small catch, in order for us to survive on the planet, we had to genetically modify our physiological nature. It wasn't seen as inhumane. However, after we did it we banned the procedure from ever being performed again." I shook my head in disbelief.

"So are you saying that the experiments on the girls and me could have been conducted using a Zorr genetic modifying tool...?" I trail off. Everything started to click. The number one reason all the experiments on other species had been successful must have been because my father had used a sequencing tool that the humans were familiar with. However, when it came to the girls and me, my father could have been offered a sequencing tool he had never used before. That could be why there had been hundreds of failed experiments! The scientists didn't know how to implement it properly!
