I woke in a cold sweat

I woke in a cold sweat. The thought of the girls knowing about my father constantly plagued my mind during the night. Nothing could stop the dreams, or rather, the memories, from playing in my head. I lay restlessly in bed, forced to relive the events of my past, the deaths of my mother and father, and the demise of everyone who died by my hand. I relived every action I had taken from the moment I discovered the experiments to the day I escaped them. These memories nearly drove me mad as I dissected each minute detail.

I snapped out of my daze when I heard a commotion take place just outside my bedroom. I jumped up and stealthily made my way to my door, throwing it open. I glanced down the hallway in the direction of Ezic's room, where the commotion was coming from. I slipped from my room quietly, making my way down the hallway. Doors opened as I passed them. I assumed that the ruckus had also awakened the other test subjects. I quietly gestured for them to go back inside their rooms. They quickly complied, trusting my judgment. When I made it to Ezic's room, I hesitated at the door briefly, listening to the voices on the other side.

"You were never meant to lead!" A menacing voice shouted, followed quickly by a vicious response from Ezic.

"You think I wanted to deal with the shit you left behind when you fucking diserted your duties!?" I could hear the shuffling in the room stop momentarily as Ezic spoke. "You're a coward. To think that you ran with those fools–!"

Gunshots rang out from behind the door. The sound caused me to jump in surprise, consequently bumping into the door. To my dismay, the still-broken door slid off its hinges, knocking my legs out from underneath me and causing me to crash forward into the room.

My mind froze with horror at the scene before me. Blood was splattered against the far wall, and underneath it lay Ezic, unmoving, blood pooling out around him. I could feel my senses roar to life at the sight. My mind instantly analyzed every detail before me, a newfound awareness overcoming me at that moment.

The feeling of danger caused the hair on my body to stand on end as the culprit turned their intention toward me. A disheveled Zolar stood above Ezic with a weapon in his hand, determined to finish him off. Zolar's attention had been momentarily disturbed by my intrusion. I felt my blood boil the moment my mind processed who was in front of me.

"You?!" Zolar hollered in surprise, stumbling back from Ezic when I came crashing in and whipping the weapon in my direction. I couldn't help the merciless grin that made its way to my face when I saw him aim the weapon at me.

Don't you know I can't die?

"YOU!?" The reply erupted from deep within my throat, sounding more like a growl than a word. When I saw Zolar's finger twitch on the weapon, I sped into action, jumping out of the way just as he pulled the trigger. I skid and roll across the floor in front of him, smacking against the large window in the process. I used the momentum I had gained to flip myself over and press my feet against the window to propel myself forward, keeping low as I advanced toward my enemy.
