The ride home was quiet

The ride home was quiet. Neither Ezic nor I tried to make conversation. Instead, we let the undeniable truth sink in; I was dying–and Ezic was angry about it.

We left the hospital late and alerted no one when we would return home. I preferred it this way. I'd rather not be bombarded with questions after such an exhausting week. When we reached Ezic's spire, he docked and exited the spacecraft. I did not attempt to remove the harnesses due to my weakened state.

"Unbelievable," I muttered to myself disapprovingly. I hated feeling weak. I would have been in a little less horrible shape if it hadn't been for the tests. Nevertheless, I was.

Ezic walked around to my side of the craft and opened the hatch. Carefully, he removed the harnesses and lifted me from my seat. I wrapped my arms around his neck and lay my head against his chest as we left the dock and entered his home. Ezic walked over to a couch and gently set me down before kneeling in front of me.

Just as Eizic began to say something, a thundering knock rang throughout the apartment. I jumped in surprise and snapped my head toward the front door. Ezic jumped up, startled.

"Who would be knocking at your door at this hour?" I whisper hushedly.

"I dont know." Ezic muttered lowly. His eyes narrowed, and before he opened the door, he first unholstered a concealed blaster from underneath the hem of his shirt. My eye widened in surprise. His actions startled me, but they weren't unwarranted. After all, there had been an attempt on his life no less than two weeks ago.

With his weapon drawn, Ezic opened the door. Before I could process what was happening, the door was thrown open. Ezic was tackled to the floor by three individuals in sleek purple uniforms–not much different from the Planetary Council cloaks.

"Ezic!" I jumped up and rushed forward but quickly regretted it as a wave of dizziness overwhelmed me. I faltered on my feet, and in the next instant, I was thrown to the floor and my arms restrained behind my back.

"Dont resist!" The soldier on top of me demanded, and I bared my teeth at him pitifully.

"I couldn't even if I tried." I groaned out painfully. I heard Ezic snarl in response to my distress.

"Ryn?!" I snap my head to the side and see the girls peeking their heads out over the second-floor railing.

"Go back to your rooms!" I yell over all the chaos. Georgia grabbed the others and quickly dragged them out of my view.

"What is the meaning of this!" Ezic roared angrily while throwing off one of the soldiers, but it was no use as another would only replace them. About a dozen soldiers stood in Ezic's living room, weapons drawn. One of the soldiers kicked Ezic's blaster from his hands, and it skidded across the room.

"Under what conditions are we being detained!" Ezic growled mincingly up at the three soldiers, who barely kept him restrained.

"She–." One soldier stated, pointing in my direction. "has an outstanding warrant for her arrest–"
