It's been three days since Ryn was transported to the base, and she still remained unconscious. Finally, after multiple emergency surgeries to stop the bleeding in her brain, she was brought to the critical care unit, where she would be watched until signs of consciousness were detected. Ryn sustained severe injuries due to the sudden buildup of pressure. The cost of that pressure buildup was the partial loss of hearing and sight due to a severe rupture in her brain. Unfortunately, surgery could restore minimal function to these injured organs due to the severity of her episode. The extent that she would suffer from them wasn't yet known. What was known was that she would live partially impaired for the rest of her life.

They uncovered extensive past injuries to her brain during the surgeries, which only seemed to aid in her decline. The only thing that she had going for her at the moment was that she was stable and healing, although very slowly. Now the rest was up to her.

"You just have to wake up, Ryn." I watched as the young female, who went by the name of Emily, cradled one of Ryn's hands in hers. When they heard of Ryn's condition, they refused to leave her side even to clean themselves. I ordered the doctors to transport Ryn to a larger room with a washroom attached so that the females would at least have that at their disposal. Sleeping cots had been set up in the room, which enabled them to rest, but they still resorted to laying with her on the bed or near it. They ate very little and looked to be in worse condition than Ryn herself.

I couldn't blame them. I even found myself spending time in Ryn's room monitoring her condition for any signs of improvement. But there had been none. I had been relieved of my duties concerning her, yet I wanted to be near, only for the slightest chance that she may wake up. The entire situation hit home hard for me, which was why the Planetary Counsel had accepted my leave of absence. This wasn't the first time I found myself in this same medical wing. I only hoped that this outcome would be brighter than the one before it.

"Anything?" I looked up from Ryn's still body and met the eyes of Commander Nohorr. I shook my head curtly in response as he entered, with Regusra following shortly after him. He looked me over, and something flashed in his eyes.

It was pity I caught a glance of.

"Mind yourself, Regusra, you might outrank me, but you're no match for me." I growl deep in my throat. This caught the attention of the females and caused them to perk up. The events of the night before flashed through my mind. I found myself jumping up from the cot I was sitting on and stalking over to the bed to guard the females. Regusra flashed me his teeth in a warning and took a step forward toward me.

Before leaving, I took a quick look around the room to ensure everything was in order, then quietly slid the door closed behind me. I was careful not to wake the sleeping females. Ryn was stable for now. She was recovering from her second surgery to reverse the damage done to her eyesight and hearing. Unfortunately, the surgery hadn't been successful.
