Chapter 15: The Phoenix

Her parents always told her that love is what brings people together. Not just any love, but a love so strong that you would do anything for the other person. Even if it meant sacrificing everything for the people you love. Of course when her parents told her this, she was nothing but a child who had never experienced love. That didn't stop her from living her life by that saying.

Jean was only a young 16 year old when she first fell in love. She had been studying under the wing of her mentor, Charles Xavier, after she discovered her mutant abilities at the mere age of 10. Jean was only one of the four students who had been attending the school since not many children had the mutant x-gene.

Jean had been struggling with being different, and with her own mutant abilities, primarily her telepathy that came with having to hear everyone's thoughts around her. On a particularly bad day, Jean was taking a pleasant walk to clear her thoughts when their small school grew by one more student. His name was Scott Summers and he had the nicest smile that Jean had ever seen.

Charles had tasked Jean with introducing and guiding Scott into their small home since she was the veteran in their school. Jean also thought Charles had done that because he read a piece of her mind when Scott first arrived that showered her thoughts about the boy.

Jean thought she was the luckiest girl to be around a boy as handsome as Scott Summers. Scott Summers on the other hand thought he was the luckiest person to have the attention of the pretty redhead in front of him, well when he was finally able to pinpoint the voice to the person. Scott had optic beams that shot out of his eyes which he couldn't control, so he wore red ruby glasses that kept his beams under control. In Jean's opinion, they made him look more handsome than she already thought he was.

It wasn't long before the two began a relationship, it was even shorter before the two fell in love with each other. Jean was finally experiencing love and every great thing that came with it. Jean and Scott lived through most of their young adulthood right by each other's side. All the struggles and hardships they experienced, they experienced together.

On top of that, their small group of gifted individuals had begun using their powers for good. They were an undercover group named the X-Men saving people from the shadows so as to not draw attention to the world of people with superhuman abilities. It was around the age of 23 that the team went on their first big mission. Charles had been in talks with the United States government about working as an elite group for government missions only when superhumans were needed.

It was at this time that the President called Charles and his team for their first mission, to save a space shuttle that was stuck in space. Jean couldn't remember much of what had happened that trip. The most she remembered was leaving the school but after that, her memory became blurry.

The next thing she knew, she was waking up in her room with Scott by her side. Everyone told her that they thought she had died, that they weren't sure she would ever wake up again. When she asked what had happened, everyone hesitated to tell her anything. It was finally Charles who had told her what happened.
