Chapter 17: I miss you
Peter stared up at the morning announcements in his school as they played back a video montage of the fallen Avenger's who died saving the world. Peter was confused when the montage ended with a picture of Maria from Homecoming a few years ago.
"Hey Parker! I hope you know I am eternally grateful for your girlfriend's sacrifice," Brad Davis, who was now in the same grade as Peter, shouted to him from across the hall. Many students turned to look at Peter who was not trying to draw attention to himself.
"Mj isn't dead so..." Peter called out to Brad but stopped realizing that nobody was paying attention to what he said. After everyone was brought back from the snap, the government showed up to the battlefield asking what the hell had happened. Steve Rogers, before he turned all old and stuff, took charge of letting the government know what was happening.
Peter had hoped that his identity wasn't revealed since the government was asking for all who were involved so they could be rewarded for their bravery, but luckily Peter managed to evade their questions on his identity. One person who wanted their identity concealed though, did not have such luck. Ultimately in the end Mj's identity was revealed to the government and since they publicly announced who had saved everyone, Maria's identity was revealed to the whole world.
Tony was of course livid when he found out, since the one thing that his daughter had protected with everything in the world was her identity. And now when she woke up she would be a celebrity, or at least a bigger celebrity than she was before. Peter, as selfish as it sounded, was hoping that people wouldn't connect the dots that Mj was dating Peter, but was also close to Spider-Man. Luckily nobody made the connection, but they were looking at Peter differently now that his girlfriend had saved the universe.
Peter walked into class where he saw Ned sitting in the middle of the room. Peter was lucky that his two friends, Ned and Michelle, were luckily still in school with him since they had blipped. Peter set his stuff down on the desk as Ned turned to look at Peter in excitement.
"Hey Peter! Excited for Europe?" Ned asked as he smiled at his friend, but soon frowned when he looked at Peter's own frown.
"Not really, I asked May if I could stay in case Mj wakes up but she said I had to go and have fun. Well, also because we had already paid for the trip but that's besides the point," Peter finished explaining to Ned, his frown never leaving his face. Ever since the incident on the battlefield with Maria almost dying, but then being saved by a space entity, things had been rough for Peter. He had been going to Mj's home every chance he got hoping she would be awake, but every time Peter was disappointed when she continued in the same state. May had finally set her foot down when Peter told her he would rather stay home to check on Maria instead of going to Europe. May had told Peter that Maria wouldn't want him sitting around stopping his life for her and forced him to go, so now here he was, about to leave to another continent, an ocean away from Maria.
