Chapter 23: I'm so sorry...

Maria sighed in relief as they finally made it to the parking lot outside of Midtown High. Maria pulled up to the front of the school more abruptly than she expected to as she smiled apologetically to everyone in the car.

"Sorry, my dad usually hires a driver for me. Says I'm a menace to society when I drive. Can you believe that?" Maria scoffed thinking back to what her dad told her after he asked how she even passed her driving exam.

"Yeah... no idea why he would say that... Anyway we should go in, yeah?" Michelle said as she tried to derive the attention from herself when Maria looked over at her confused.

"Wait, is my driving that bad?" Maria asked the group who all looked away from her gaze making Maria's jaw drop, offended by the insinuation.

"Well... hey, you got us here didn't you?" younger Peter said, trying to lighten the mood.

"Barely," Ned muttered under his breath hoping nobody heard him, but everyone did.

"But did you die!?" Maria called out angrily, daring Ned to disagree with her.

"Ask us that after we're back home, safe and sound," Ned told her as he told the Peter's to get out. Maria gaped at him, offended looking at Michelle for back up, but the girl was already out the door holding the magic box in her hand as they all waited for Maria to step out of the car.

"Next time, you all can walk," Maria said, stepping out of her car as she flipped her hair back sassily, walking up to the group.

"So, should we all go up at the same time? Or what?" Ned asked the group looking around on what to do.

"I think Mj should go first," Michelle told the group as older and younger Peter agreed with her.

"Okay, um, give me five minutes and then you all can come up yeah?" Maria asked the group who all agreed telling her they would see her in five minutes.

Maria left the group as she walked up the steps of the school to the door, hoping it wasn't locked. Maria cursed in frustration as she tried jiggling the knob so she could open the door, but to no avail.

"Come on," Maria muttered as she jiggled the knob one more time, having no luck. Maria was about to kick the door open when she felt her body flying through the door.

"What the fuck?" Maria asked herself confused as she looked up from the floor to the door that was still closed. That was weird, Maria thought to herself as she picked herself back up and made her way to the stairs that took her up to the roof. Could her powers be coming back? Maybe it was due to the imminent danger she was worrying about that was triggering her power's to slowly come back, Maria thought as she shrugged making her way to the door that led to the roof.

Maria opened the door slowly as she looked in front of her where she noticed Peter sitting, looking out into the city. She noticed how still he was, probably replaying what happened at Happy's place. Maria and the group had found out on the way to the school that Aunt May was the unfortunate casualty when Michelle pulled up a news article confirming the person who died at the scene. Maria walked slowly over to where Peter sat as he made no movement to acknowledge she was there. Maria kneeled down softly next to Peter as she placed a hand calmly to his shoulder.
