The Surgery

Tommy's POV

I had been waiting out in the hospitals seating area for about 20 minutes before Adam and El arrived.

"Tommy! what the hell happened? where is she? where is my girl?!" Adam was just about in tears and was barely getting his words out.

"she's in surgery. she fell while she was trying to run away from me and hit her head hard on the concrete." I managed to mumble.

"shit it's all my fault!" ellie exclaimed. "it's all my fucking fault! why did I have to be such a bitch and yell at her about her blades!" she tried to continue before Adam and I wrapped her into a big hug.

"Shh El this isn't in any way your fault." i comforted her. we were all in tears by now and you could practically feel the tension in the air.

After about 10 minutes of silent hugging we all moved over to the one of the brown leather couches and sat down quietly trying not to wake any of the other families waiting for any information on their loved one.

the silence was killing me. it was like we all just forgot what words were. it was awful. all I could thing of was Amber running and falling, over and over again. I felt like I was going insane.

we sat there for around 15 minutes before ellie curled up her legs and rested her head on my lap. I think she fell asleep straight away, I mean it's not surprising, today has been horrible. i let my head fall backwards onto the backrest of the couch and adam let his fall onto my shoulder. let's face it, we all needed the sleep. I put my arm around adams back and started rubbing his arm trying to comfort him and let him fall asleep. I felt ellie lift her arm up and place it over my legs in order to get to adam. he noticed and moved his hand to hold hers. I felt better. I felt like I had a family, a real family, something I hadn't really experienced before.

we must have been asleep for a couple of hours before the surgeon came out and woke us.

"are you all here for Amber Montgomery?"

"she prefers Amber Lambert" I heard adam speak as he lifted his head off my shoulder with a smile"
"how is she doing?" I asked worriedly.

we waited for about 5 seconds eagerly before the surgeon opened his mouth.
"the surgery went ok, nothing went wrong but we did find that she had some brain damage from the fall which may cause her to have some temporary memory loss."
I felt my heard sink down into my stomach.
"she suffered some slight internal bleading which we were able to control. she's in her own room now and you'll be able to visit her tomorrow morning. she will need to stay about a week or 2 just so that we can make sure everything is ok but I can almost guarantee she will be perfectly fine." he concludes his speech with a smile and walks off.
I can hear all 3 of us let out a giant sigh of relief as we turn and give a small smile to eachother.

"you guys go find a hotel somewhere close by, I'll stay here so I can be here when she wakes up." adam says.

"no I want to stay as well. I'm not leaving." Ellie say with a look of worry on her face.
"I agree adam, I don't want you to be alone all night." I tell him.

"alright. well we may as well get comfy." adam says while walking back over to the couch.
it was already 2am so I didn't think there was much point sleeping and plus I don't think my mind would let me, but I would gladly lay down for a few hours.
I walked over to where adam and El were sitting and layed my head on adams thighs.
"I hope you don't mind, your legs are comfy and my head hurts." I say with a giggle. Adam laughs, "no it's fine" he smiles.
"Adam, im sorry about this, it's my fault she hit her head, I was so abrupt when I found her, I was just so relieved and when she fell I just-" I was cut off by adam grabbing my hand.
"don't worry T, it wasn't your fault, you were the one who found her, If you didn't get to her when you did, who knows how the situation could have ended up."
I smiled and looked over at our hands which were interlocked perfectly. I awkwardly took a deep breathe in and pulled my hand away.
"um, so where do you think we should stay for a couple of weeks while she's in here?" I asked.
we discussed this topic for a while before I noticed adam getting sleepy.
"you should get some rest, you need it you old fart." I mocked him.
"hey you're older than me that's not fair!" he giggled.
we seemed to stare at eachother for a few minutes before he ran his hands through my messy bed hair.
"goodnight tj"
"goodnight adam"

THE NEXT MORNING

ADAMS POV
I awoke to the sound of tommy pulling his phone out of his pocket.
I smiled as to say Goodmorning and he did the same.
"should we wake El up and go see Amber?" I asked tommy
"yeah good idea" he replied.
"Ellie baby wake up, we're gonna go see if Amber is up, you wanna come?" I spoke.
she opened her groggy eyes and looked around as if she didn't know where she was, but then she remembered.
"oh, yeah sure" she mumbled.

we picked up our jackets and made our way over to room 158. we stood at the door looking at Amber laying there still asleep.
"should we go in?" tommy whispered.
ellie had already started walking over.
"I guess so" I laughed

we all stood around her bed while we examined all the machines she was hooked up to. it's amazing how each one of these machines has its own job.

"Amber hunny?" I asked. she moved her hand slightly and we all smiled.

"Hey Amber it's Tommy, how are you feeling?" tommy asked eagerly
she opened her eyes slowly and looked around at us. she squinted her eyes and examined us again

she opened her mouth to speak and I got excited

"who are you people?"
