"how do you do that?" one of my coworkers asked.

"huh?" i raised a brow as i looked up from my salad.

"like... how have you stuck to eating healthy and working out?" she tilted her head. "'cause that's been my new year's resolution for, like, the past five years, and i haven't been able to stick to it."

i gave a small laugh as i leaned back in my chair. "i mean... it's all about your mindset and how much you want it, you know? if you truly want it, and you truly work for it, then it's easier to stick to it. it also gets easier once you start actually seeing results," i told her. i jokingly flexed my arm.

"okay, now, stop showing off," she waved at me in an attempt to get me to stop flexing.

i laughed loudly as i stopped. i adjusted my shirt a bit. she watched intently as i did, and i raised a brow.

"but, uh, yeah... you just gotta truly want it and give it your best shot," i said. i shrugged. "something like that. i dunno, i'm not the best advice giver if we're being honest."

"no, you're good," she laughed. "thanks for the advice, really."

"yeah, of course," i gave a small nod.

i rubbed my face as i got up from my seat. i don't even know how long i've been sitting at my desk, but i do know that i need to give myself a break and walk around a bit.

i stretched as i stood up. i pushed my chair in, and i walked out of the room.

i walked around the studio for a bit. i got to the front, and i raised a brow as i saw someone walk in.

"well, hey, billie," the corners of my lips tugged into a small smirk as i walked over to her.

billie's eyes widened a bit as she saw me. "oh. hey, jessie," she greeted.

i placed my hands into my pockets as i stood in front of her. "so... what brings you here?"

"i made a song for the movie..." she admitted slowly. "my computer was being dumb though, and it wouldn't let me send the finished song over, so," she awkwardly held up a small flash drive.

"that's cool," i shifted my weight from one foot to the other. "did you, uh... you wrote it all yourself?"

"yeah, i did," she nodded. "i wrote it all, but my brother helped with some of the backing vocals, and he also helped produce some of it."

"you two are really talented," i complimented. "i mean— i only heard the demo, but still. i thought the demo was the finalized product."

she laughed, and she dipped her head to hide her face for a moment. "thank you," she murmured. she looked back up. "the demo wasn't that good though."

my eyes widened. "you kidding me? it was amazing, shorty. seriously."

"thank you," she told me again with a small smile.

"of course," i mumbled. i reached my hand up, and i rubbed the back of my neck. "so, do you, like... write a lot of songs? i mean, do you publish your own songs or anything? songs that you didn't make for a movie or something?"

"i write my own, personal songs, but i don't publish them, no," she shook her head.

"really?" my brows furrowed. "why not?"

"i just don't want to," she laughed. "i'm not trying to do anything with my own music. i'm fine with just making songs for other people and projects like this."

"oh, damn. well, if you ever wanted to, i feel like you could really go far with it. you could be all famous and shit," i flashed a smile.

"i don't want to be famous," she scoffed as she made a face. "fame seems miserable, dude. i don't want that. not that i could get that, but i'm definitely not going to go chasing after it."

i thought for a moment. "yeah, i can see where you're coming from. fame does seem pretty miserable if you really think about it."

"exactly," she nodded. she let out a small sigh. "anyways, uh... who do i need to give this to? like... where do i go?" she asked as she held the flash drive up again.

"oh, right," my eyes widened. "here, follow me."

she followed close behind me as i lead her through the studio. "so, you're coming to the bar this weekend, right?" she asked.

"i told you friday that i would," i said. "you must really want me to, huh?" i quizzed teasingly as i smirked.

"no," she let out a puff of air. "i was just wondering, that's all."

"right," i agreed sarcastically as we stopped in front of a door. "well, here we are. just knock, and he'll let you in so that you can go over everything or whatever."

"thank you," she gave a small nod.

"yeah, no problem," i flashed a smile. i licked my lips as i glanced over her. "i'll see you friday, billie."

she bit her lip as she glanced over me as well. "yeah, see you friday, jj."

i smirked before i walked off. i walked back to my desk, and i leaned back in my seat for a moment. i took my hat off and ran my hand through my hair.

i want to get to know her more. i'm not drinking this weekend, so that i can actually try and talk to her more.

"seriously... i will never get how you can do this so easily," matthew huffed as he watched me do all kinds of tricks around the skatepark.

"i've told you before... it's not that easy," i laughed. "but practice makes perfect or whatever, and i've definitely got a lot of practice."

"i guess so," he sighed.

"oh, dude. so, you know the bartender at the club?" i raised a brow as i continued to skate.

"yeah, i guess, why?" he made a face.

"turns out, she's an amazing singer. she made a song for the movie i'm working on at the studio; it's good," i told him. "she came by earlier."

"really? that's cool," he nodded. "speaking of the bartender... you sure do stare at her a lot when we're there," he teased.

"what? no, i don't," i scoffed.

"yeah, you do," he chuckled. "are you gonna get her number, or what?"

"no," i flipped him off. "i told you... i'm not looking for a relationship or a hookup or anything right now."

"oh, okay, so... you just want to continue to go to the bar so that you can stare at her?" he made a kissy face at me.

"man, fuck off," i kissed my teeth. "no, that's not— no, dude."

"yeah. right," he agreed sarcastically.
