"If this doesn't wash out, Rue, I'm gonna roast you," I mutter as Rue finishes spraying the green temporary hair dye in my pure white hair. I open my eyes when the hissing noise ceases, and look at myself in the mirror. My messy white hair is now completely green, and my face is caked with ghostly white makeup. Rue smears her bright red lipstick on me in a crude smile across my face before I can get up, and then she rubs dark eyeshadow on both of my eyelids. I stand and straighten myself up, fixing my purple pinstripe suit and matching pants. Rue loosens the green tie around my white button up beneath the coat and spritzes setting spray for the makeup all over my face, making me squint.
"When is Featherface gonna be here?" Rue comments as she pushes me out of her bathroom into her main dorm room so she can fix her hair. She's wearing a long, flowing, bright scarlet wig that falls halfway down her back, and her ears awkwardly protrude from the top of it. Rue sports a flattering emerald leotard corset adorned with leaves and vines complete with satin emerald elbow-length gloves and lime-colored fishnets that reach to thigh-high forest green boots. I walk over to the bed to sit next to Ryuko, who is wearing a Catwoman spandex suit and has a bull whip at her hip.
"Uh, he should be here any minute now. He had the entire day off, but he said he was going all out with his costume. So that's what he's been working on all day," I answer Rue as she fluffs her wig and adjusts her ears.
"I don't understand why you didn't just cosplay White Rabbit. That would've been easier and made more sense," Ryuko yawns as she lazily scrolls through her phone.
"Because Ivy is a sexy girlboss!" Rue exclaims, admiring herself in the mirror.
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
The door opens and Shinji and Yu walk into the room. Shinji is dressed up as NightWing while Yu is dressed up as Starfire.
"Are you guys ready to head to Musutafu for the Halloween Festival, yet?" Shinji asks as he puts an arm around Yu's waist.
'I kind of figured that they were a thing.' I think to myself as Rue walks out of the bathroom.
"Just waiting on Kei," Rue replies.
TAP! TAP! TAP!
I look up at Rue's sliding glass door to her balcony to see Keigo standing on the other side.
"Oh. My. God," Ryuko covers her mouth, trying not to laugh. My eyes widen. Keigo has completely dyed his right wing hot pink and his left wing bright royal blue. A streak of his blonde hair on his left is dyed sky blue while a streak on the right is dyed bubblegum pink. A white leather heart choker sits around his neck, and he holds a fake bat with nails in it in his hands. He sports a satin two-toned varsity jacket that overlays the tattered, ripped, crop top that shows off his abs and reads:
"Daddy's Little Monster."
He's also wearing a pair of distressed, two-toned skin-tight shorts that are half-red-half-blue, tall black converse, and thigh-high white socks. His pink and blue eyeshadow is smeared on both sides, and he has a small, black heart temporary tattoo under his eye.
"Heyyo!" He says in his light-hearted voice as he opens the door and walks in the room. My heart thuds in my chest, and I bite my tongue to keep from saying anything.
'Why. Why the hell am I attracted to this.'
Shinji bursts out laughing.
"Dude. Keigo. Why are you Harley Quinn? I thought you were gonna be Batman?" He asks, wiping tears from his eyes from laughing so hard.
"Because I wanted to fit Rue's bestie aesthetic!" He chuckles as Rumi rushes up to him and wraps him in a hug. Keigo glances at me with a wink when no one is looking, and I'm glad the makeup is covering up my face.
