Chapter 36- Solution

Cinder and the others ate and then went off to do some training, Kelly sat by the fire wondering if they would ever trust her again.

She had gone to her father and talked to him, what if she went back and told him were they were?

Ash and Nathan looked at her as they went and followed Cinder to the dirt ground were, they did their training.

Kelly stood and came over to watch them and Tayrah sat next to her waiting her turn to go out. "Are you ok?" Tayrah asked and Kelly looked at her and then nodded "why would I not?" Tayrah frowned and turned to watch Cinder and Nathan mock-battle.

Cinder ducked and brought her sword to Nathan's neck, Nathan raised his hands smiling. "You win." he said and turned to Kelly "You want to go?" Kelly nodded and wondered if this would make them want her with them, after everything she had done to them. "Sure." she said and stood. Cinder frowned as Kelly walked towards her a confident smile on her face.

"This is going to be fun." Kelly said in mock hatred, but Cinder just smiled and unsheathed her sword and nodded at Kelly that she was ready.

"Are we using powers or not?" Kelly asked her voice tight. Ash nodded "what would you rather do...sis?" Cinder nodded "Powers." Kelly nodded at her again and took out her own sword, it was black obsidian and looked sharp enough to cut butter.

Ash and the others looked at Cinder, but she looked confident. What would Kelly do to her if she won? Would she run away? Kelly stepped forward and hit Cinder's sword with her own and smiled "you ready?" she asked, and Cinder nodded and then all you could hear was the peal of metal on metal.

Both were masters at the sword and the others knew that they wouldn't give up without a fight, the whole thing was like a dance and neither of them knew when to stop. Suddenly Cinder ducked and brought her sword under Kelly's legs making the world around her hot and barley breathable. Kelly coughed and then suppressed the flames with water, but it wasn't just water, it was solid ice. Cinder looked at it for a moment, but it was enough for Kelly to get the better of her and in a moment, Kelly had Cinder by knife point.

Ash and the others looked stunned and then congratulated Kelly. Kelly gave Cinder her hand and she got to her feet. "K...Kelly, what was that... with the...Ice?" Kelly nodded and smiled "I found that out when I was wandering around looking for you guys..." when they all went silent to hear how she had done it she ducked her head and wouldn't say any more about it, but it nagged at Cinder for the rest of the day.

After that was done Kelly looked at Cinder and then at the western sky. "We have to go and get Rakol, he will be heading this way and before he gets to camp, we can intercept him." Ash and the others looked at Cinder who nodded.

"How far is he?" she asked, "not far." Kelly said and started walking down the hill. Nathan and Tayrah followed her and Ash and Cinder looked back at the camp and followed them down the hill. Kelly looked at Cinder and nodded her head, she could trust her again.

Suddenly without warning Kelly stopped and held up her fist for them to stop. "He is coming right up the hill...hide!"

Cinder and Ash ducked behind a large clump of trees and watched as Rakol came running up the hill, Kelly was right after all.

Ash came and stood next to Cinder nodding at were Rakol stood now still. Cinder shook her head and looked at Kelly, would the girl betray them or stay with them like she promised?

Suddenly Rakol turned and looked straight at Cinder where she hid. "Really, are you going to hide from me, i thought you wanted to see me?" Cinder looked at her brother and he shook his head. Cinder shook off his concern, this was their chance to kill him, they were not going to waist that.

She stood and watched as Rakol's eyes found her and smiled "Cinder!" he said with nod of his head. "What do you want?" Cinder said her fist clenched and slowly fires started to burn about him, blocking his escape.

Kelly came from behind Cinder and placed her hand on her shoulder, Cinder nodded and as Kelly walked toward the flames Cinder opened up a gap so that she could walk through unharmed.

As the others watched Kelly knelt before her father and Ash stepped forward about to yell out, but Cinder raised her fist and silenced his warning and advance. They would wait it out.

Rakol smiled and touched Kelly's' hair, she looked at him, her blond hair waving in the wind, her eyes unwavering as she reached behind her for her dagger that sat strapped to her back.

Cinder saw this and nodded her head as Kelly turned her eyes to look at her from the side of the wall of fire.

Nathan and Tayrah worked together to enforce Cinders' homemade cage and Ash held it all together with the wind.

Suddenly Rakol realized what was going on and yelled in outrage, but it was too late, Kelly raised the dagger and plunged it into his heart.

For a moment Rakol looked confused and then crumpled to the ground at Kelly's feet, together the others ceased their winds, and all was silent for a moment and Kelly raised the dagger and water came rushing over the blade cleaning it.

Cinder was the first to walk forward and hugged Kelly. "I knew you would do it." she whispered in her ear before the others came forward.

Kelly nodded and frowned, resetting the dagger at her back, and stepping out of the circle that had been created.

Suddenly Teloki came running over and noticed Kelly walking away, a confused look on his face, then he saw Cinder standing by his father's body.

"Cinder?" he asked Cinder looked at him her eyes sad. "It is over, he will never trap us again." with that she collapsed and stopped moving.

Kelly noticed that her cloths were steaming and slowly put her hand to her back and willed water to coat her body, slowly the steaming stopped, and Kelly nodded at Teloki to pick her up. The five of them were reunited again, but for how long?

Teloki cradled Cinder as the others got their horses and they went back to the camp, unknown that someone was watching them, someone that Cinder knew very well, someone that had gone away when she was very little and gone over, now that figure saw that her leader was dead and saw who was to blame.

Ember watched as they left the body and walked off, she would have her revenge.
