CHAPTER 17- RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!

Cinder and the others kept pace with Kelly as she lead them farther away from Rakol and the shadow-hunter. This was the end, the battle was near and they had to get away or they would all get killed, that was the thing that they had to do or bad things would happen to everyone that they knew and loved. What would they do? This was not how it was supposed to end.

Cinder looked up ahead and saw that some trees where low enough for her to burn, and as it had been a very dry season that wouldn't be a problem. She channeled her power into the trees and watched with glee as the burned onto the path.

Was this what she wanted? For everyone to know what she could really do? How would they respond to that? Teloki looked at her and smiled, she was everything that he wanted. And he wanted them to be together forever but would that really happen? Would this war ever end between the Shadow-hunters and the Children of Light? That was what she wanted to know because if it wasn't going to end then she was giving up right then and there, she didnt care what her dead mother thought, she was not the one for the job, even though her mother had said that she was she was not and that was that, she would never be her mother, and that was a fact, her mother had been this perfect little angel and she was nowhere near that, she was as imperfect as it got and now her mother and the five nations wanted her to lead them into a battle that she knew that they would lose, who did they think she was, Yes she was the daughter of their leader, but it really should be him leading them into this battle but her father was standing away from her, letting her take charge. She could tell that this would be bad, she needed her father at her side, suddenly out of nowhere Ash came into her head Hey, you have us remember? she looked at him and smiled Yeah, I guess but it is not the same having you guys and having my father with me, and he is just standing there doing nothing. maybe that is for a reason that you don't know yet, wait and see... the link went dark and Cinder looked at her father who nodded at her to continue, Kelly and the others came up to her and they all stood in front of the whole army that they had gathered, the five nations stood ready to fight and this was going to be the fight of their lives. There was no turning back now, this was ether the beginning or the end and this war would determined if they would stand together or would they all go back to where they were before Cinder gathered the stars together? She hoped not, this was as far as they were getting and she was not intending to go at it alone, the four other stars had come this far with her they would stand by her even if their countrymen didn't. They where one and they would stay together through it all. Teloki looked at Cinder and took her hand and lead her over to her father who was holding out a box to her, what was inside, she wondered?

Was it something that would help them? Cinder lifted the lid and smiled, it was her mothers necklace, the one that she wore when she married her father and the same one she wore when she discovered the power within her.

Now it was Cinders burden that she had to carry, but she didn't know if she really wanted it, when she had sat there next to her mother as she laid dying she had felt a sense of excitement and now all she felt was dread, because they were all going to a battle that they didn't know if any of them would live and that was bad, who would rule if Cinder died? No one had thought of that.
