Chapter 43- Anger

Once the door was shut behind her she pushed her hair from her face and looked around. Ember and Kelly had disappeared, as into thin air and Cinder stepped off the porch and stood waiting, knowing that Rakol and the others were waiting for them. As she looked around the wind picked up and waved her hair around her. She would be ready for whatever they had for her.

Suddenly as she looked down the street, she saw a lone figure walking towards her at a steady pace. "Who is that?" she thought and soon got the answer. The person had a black, duster like coat around their shoulders and long black hair. "Ember?" she whispered and looked towards the window of the inn. Teloki and the others watched her, ready if she needed it to come and help her. Cinder nodded her head and felt that she should let Ember feel like she was catching Cinder unaware, so she started the dance again. Fire roared in her ears as she let it loose and she felt power, a dark power coming closer, so she let her fire go, but not completely. A small fox sat at her feet, its fur a living flame like her wings, and she knew what its name was it was Coal. Cinder watched him rub against her leg and she smiled unaware of her sister watching from a distance until she heard harsh laughter.

"So, this is what you are reduced to? Playing with the animals and looking after a dead town?" Ember said. Cinder looked at her sister and found that she was wearing Rakol's' cloak. "My father's cloak." She thought and glared at Ember. Unaware of that Ember stepped back a step, then smiled. "I see that you have more fight in you then my Master mentioned before he died." Cinder lowered her eyes, Ember didn't know that Rakol was still alive, that was good to know, and she relayed the information to the others. Cinder looked at Ember and sighed "You are not what you think you are, Rakol wouldn't have given you that if he had known sooner about..." Cinder bowed her head. Ember narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "Known about what?" she asked.

Cinder looked at her, pure pain in her eyes. "You don't know do you?" Cinder asked. Ember glared at her. "What did he tell you, fool!?" Ember asked and stepped closer. Cinder closed her eyes and called upon the shadows. Darkness hissed and swirled around her, the Shadow that had come to her in the dream materialized in front of her "What is your will mistress?" He asked. Cinder looked at Ember, her eyes where wide. "Shadow, who do you serve?" Cinder asked not taking her eyes off of Ember who looked at the shadow with shock. The shadow bowed to one knee in front of her. "You mistress." He hissed. Cinder nodded "And why is that?" she asked. "Because you are Rakol's daughter..." Ember gasped and then took a step back, her foot stepped on a branch and it cracked under her boot the shadow suddenly turned and faced Ember, who was white with fear as she looked into his empty black eyes. The shadow hissed at her and stepped towards her. "Traitor, you are not worthy to wear our master cloak, take it off!" the shadow hissed and stepped towards her. Ember gasped her eyes full of fear at the Shadow's sudden anger at her and fumbled with the clasp. "GET IT OFF." The shadow bellowed and Ember dropped it to the ground and stepped back.

Ember looked at Cinder. "How?" she whispered, eyeing the Shadow that now glared at her as she stepped towards Cinder. Cinder shook her head "I honestly don't know, but this...' she pointed at Rakol's cloak 'doesn't belong to you anymore, he may have given it to you, but you are not his daughter...now leave." Cinder held out her hand and slowly she felt Embers life force ebbing away before her and soon Ember was nothing but another of the mindless shadows that now served her. Cinder looked at the shadow that had been Ember and watched her look at her, gnashing its teeth it knelt and bowed before her and handed her the cloak, which Cinder placed around her own shoulders. Cinder nodded her head and slashed her hand through the shadow, and it dissolved with a hiss.

Ember was gone, but that act only alerted the others, Kii and Liethra where she was, what about Kelly? Where were they? She thought and stepped out of the road, vibrating with power she went to the inn and opened the door and found that it was dark. She wondered if now that she had the power of the shadows had the power of fire been taken from her. Lifting her hand, she envisioned heat in her hand and opening her eyes she found that a small flame danced across her palm. Thrusting her hand forward she threw the ball of fire into the mantle and as she did, so the shadows of the room hissed at the bright light. "Mistressssss......" she heard them hiss as the light hit them.

Cinder didn't pay attention but looked around the room, where was everyone? She wondered. Suddenly she was barreled into from behind and she resisted throwing a punch at whoever it was. "T...Teloki?" she asked not turning around. "Yeah?" Cinder sighed and turned around, throwing her arms around him she hugged him, crying into his shoulder.

"W...What happened?' he asked as Cinder clung to him. 'I thought, that something had happened to you." Teloki looked at her. "No, we are all fine. What happened?" Cinder looked at him. "Rakol...I can...I can control the shadows, just like he did." She whispered. "Is it getting worse?" he asked Cinder shook her head "I don't know..." Suddenly everyone was there, and Cinder looked at them. "You ok sis?" Ash asked. Cinder looked at him knowing that she couldn't hold the truth from them forever. "Guys... there is something that I need to tell you..." Ash and the others looked at her. "Ok?" Teloki said and grabbed her hand. Cinder looked at him but slipped her hand out of his grasp and smiled at him. "Ok, so...this is something that I have already told some of you, but I want everyone to know about it." Kia and Nathan nodded "Ok, so what is it?" Cinder suddenly felt a wash of pain and she gasped. Suddenly dark mist swirled slowly around her. "Mistress. We are here, you called.!?" It hissed. Cinder nodded and looked at her friends. Nathan had his sword out. "Cinder, that is a Shadow, that is one of the Fallen where is Rakol!?" he yelled at her.

Cinder shook her head. "Nathan, don't if you hurt it, the others will not hesitate to attack, right now they are not, because I have told them not to." Tayrah looked at her. "Cinder, Rakol controls the shadows, you don't, this thing with tear you apart." Cinder sighed. "Guys, this is what I have needed to tell you, Rakol is my father... he is not controlling them, he is dead, but he passed the power onto me." Nathan and Kia shook their heads. "What, that couldn't have happened, Kelly was his daughter, that...' Nathan pointed to the cloak around Cinder's shoulders 'should have gone to Kelly, not you." Cinder shook her head

"I know, I never asked for this but in Alther was told that he was my father." Ash's eyes widened "You went to Alther?!" Cinder nodded. "Kelly is here, with Ember, we have to get out of here." Together they started running down the street, Cinder felt a breeze wash over her and suddenly two figures landed in front of them, grinning. "Did you miss me?" Kelly asked.
