"Oh, look at you! Do you love your first birthday cake? You must love it, because it is all over you, silly girl!" Dahyun giggled as she took a few photos of your daughter, who you held in your arms, laughing over how she had cake smeared all over her face and hands.

Today is her very first birthday and you went all out for it, despite her being so young that you doubt she'll be able to remember any of it.

Nonetheless, you wanted her to be showered with love today, even more so than usual, so you and Dahyun did everything you could to make this the best first birthday anyone could ever dream of.

"Did mommy make a good cake?" Dahyun asked as she put her phone in her back pocket, kneeling on the floor beside you and your little girl, stroking her tiny cheek.

Upon pulling her hand away, she saw the pink frosting over her fingertips, and she laughed even harder.

"I hope so. I worked hard on it." You said as you showered your daughter's head with kisses.

"It's delicious, y/n!" Sana enthusiastically said as she continued to shove pieces of the cake and frosting into her mouth, savoring the taste of it.

Dahyun was looking around to find family and friends enjoying themselves.

But, upon turning her head to look back at you, she was met with your little girl shoving some cake into her face.

"Oh, wow. Thank you! I just finished mine and felt like I didn't have enough, so thank you for this!" Dahyun spoke in a little baby voice to your daughter, who just giggled along with her.

"You have frosting everywhere." You laughed as you ran your fingers through a few strands of Dahyun's long black hair, pulling frosting out of it as you did so.

"Mischievous," Dahyun said as she brushed her nose against your daughter's forehead before kissing it softly.

"If you don't mind, I'm going to go and clean her up real quick. If I don't clean up this frosting on her now, it'll be even harder to later."

You stood up and Dahyun did the same, giving you a kiss on your lips before she watched the two of you go upstairs to the bathroom.

Dahyun looked around and considered taking this time to mingle and talk to the girls or other people there at the party.

But she decided to follow you upstairs instead.

She heard the giggles before she even reached the bathroom.

Without a word but with a big smile on her face, she leaned against the doorway and watched as you gently brushed a washcloth against your daughter's skin.

"You're so messy! Such a little rascal!" You laughed and the sound and sight made your daughter do the same.

You brushed the washcloth against her tiny fingers and when Dahyun got a glimpse of them in that second, she got flashbacks.

Flashbacks to this day, one year ago exactly.

Just after your daughter was born and laid on your chest, her much tinier fingers wrapping around Dahyun's and yours.

She remembered the first time she saw those sweet, beautiful eyes of hers.

She remembered the smell of her skin and how soft and warm she was when Dahyun first held her, shortly after you brought her into the world. It was a special moment, one she will never forget for as long as she lives.

That first kiss on her head, the first time she brushed her fingertips against her head and felt the few strands of hair there.

Every moment of that day had been so beautiful and so special.

Well, after your daughter was born. The other parts before that weren't so beautiful, as you suffered for quite a few long hours to get her here.

But Dahyun had never felt so much love or happiness in that very second that she had arrived. It was intense and immense and it was everything everyone said it would be; an unforgettable sight and feeling knowing that your daughter had entered the world, changing your lives in the most amazing way imaginable.

And that feeling of love and happiness brought on because of your little girl hasn't faded since that day. It's only become stronger.

Despite the long, sleepless nights that you faced together as you tried to get her to stop crying at three am. The arguments that you shared over the smallest and silliest of the things due to your lack of sleep. The days when she dreaded leaving to go to practice or to the studio, unable to walk out the door without shedding tears from how much she missed you both.

You've had your share of good and bad days together since your daughter joined the world last year but every time Dahyun thinks back to them, even during the hardest nights and most difficult and tiring days, she just smiles and feels an overwhelming sense of love for you and your little girl.

"Hey, baby. How long have you been standing there?" You asked a moment later, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"Oh, not long." Dahyun chuckled as she came up behind you. "Did you make a mess?"

Your daughter laughed as you ran the faucet again, getting some more water on the washcloth, only for her to run her hands under it and splash the water around.

"Hey!" You laughed and turned the water off.

"Troublemaker," Dahyun teased, pinching your daughter's cheek softly before kissing it a few times.

She stared at you for a second after, only to get caught.

"Why are you staring at me?"

Dahyun shook her head with a smile.

"Honestly? I'm just amazed by you."

"What for?" You chuckled.

"Everything. I keep thinking back to this time last year. When she entered the world. You changed both of our lives that day, giving us the most beautiful, and mischievous," she paused, looking at your daughter and then back at you. "Little girl."

"She is amazing."

"And I just feel so lucky. But it makes me a little sad too. Because it doesn't even feel like it's been a year. We only have seventeen of them left and then she moves out and moves on with her life. Times flies. I just know that these years are going to go by so quickly and sometimes, I fear that I'll miss out on certain things because of the life that I live."

"Oh, Dahyun." You sighed and dried your daughter off before picking her up from the counter and into your arms. "I know it doesn't feel like it's been that long. I look at her and wonder where the time went. But seventeen years is still quite a while. I know they'll go by fast but I don't think they'll go by as fast as you worry they will."

"I hope you're right."

"Oh, I am. Because she's one today and my parents are already talking to me about the terrible twos, the start of kindergarten, and the delightful teenage years. Trust me, those days aren't going to go by as fast as we think."

She laughed and looked at your daughter.

"Oh, how fun! Well, with how much trouble you cause sometimes, I think you might start your terrible twos early." She said to your daughter, brushing her fingers through her hair, making her laugh.

"We've got a lot to look forward to. There's a lot of great days ahead of us. So, don't be sad. She's growing up but not that fast. Besides, she'll always be our little girl. Nothing will ever change that, not even time."

She nodded before kissing your lips softly.

"I love you."

"I love you too, Dahyun."

"And we love you so much, honey! Come here, come to me." She said as she picked your daughter up, tickling her tiny sock-covered feet as she exited the bathroom, spoiling her with love and kisses, enjoying every second of seeing her so happy at her first birthday party; the first of many.
