I walk into the foyer of the newly acquired Villa that now belongs to my family.
After permanently moving to Hartford almost a whole year ago, it's taken my Mother this long to be satisfied enough with the refurbishments that have been done to the house to finally call it home and be proud enough to show it off to outsiders.
The Villa is a large estate, with seven bedrooms, lots of outdoor space, two swimming pools and living quarters for the house help.
It's also situated a good distance away from the main city.....which is my favorite part about it.....the isolation, the quietness, the peacefulness...i love it here.
"Well, hello Ms. Raquel."
"Hello Janet." i murmur with a smile, looking at the elderly house help that has cared for our family for almost half my life.
"Your Dad is home." she says coyly, coming to take my small weekend bag away from me and upstairs to my room.
"Really?" i ask in surprise, looking at the time.
He is rarely ever home at this time of the day...even after his so called 'retirement', instead, he seemed to have gotten busier doing other things.
"Mhhmm." she hums.
"Where?"
"Sunroom."
"Thanks" i murmur, warmly patting her on the shoulder and going off to find him.
I walk down the hall and come to a stop at an open door and knock once on the side to announce my presence, before i make my way in.
Dad is sprawled out on a large sofa by the window, reading a newspaper and catching the late afternoon sun.
He looks up when i appear.
"There you are, your sisters are already here." He says, closing the newspaper and stretching his hand out to welcome me.
I smile and walk towards him, bending down to kiss his cheek, before sitting down on the arm of the chair next to him.
"Hello Darling." he says.
"Hai dad....all of them?" i ask.
"All of them" he responds and i wrinkle my nose, already hearing in my head how i will be chastised for being the last one here by Mom.
"What happened to you though?" i ask curiously.
"What do you mean?" He responds innocently.
"Look at you, sitting here, reading a Newspaper past 4 o'clock in the afternoon on a Friday...What happened, did they shut down your office or something?" I ask sarcastically.
"Hey, i'm retired..all i have is lazy time on my hands." He says.
