The Call

POV Gina

I walk into the school. Almost immediately, Jack walks toward me. "Gina, tell me everything," he says. "About what?" I ask. "The musical you were making, how your friends in Salt Lake City are, but most of all about the boy," he states.

"What boy?" "C'mon, Gina, you remember our talk about first kisses, right?" he asks. "Oh, that boy," I state. "He was my boyfriend for a few months but we decided to break up since he was going to university and I was going here," I say.

Thinking about it hurts.

"I'm sorry," Jack says. "No, it's okay," I state. "Was he your first kiss, though?" Jack asks. I smile. "He was."

"Good. You deserve someone who loves you," Jack states. I blush. "Thanks, but it's all past time now, my friends are starting to make a new musical for the competition against North High," I say. "It's crazy to think that I won't be a part of that anymore."

Jack smiles at me. "I get that," he states. Hannah, Emily, and Joey walk toward us. "Hey," Hannah greets. I smile. "I hate to interrupt your little chit-chat but we have English right now, so I need a plan," she states.

"A plan?" I ask. "Hannah hates English so she's always thinking of ideas on how to skip it," Emily explains. "So what's your idea this time?" I laugh.

"I was thinking dentist but suggestions are still open," she states. I chuckle. "I want to start this year with good grades so I'm going to the lesson," I state. "Me too," Jack says.

"What?! You're all leaving me?! Emily, Joey?" Hannah asks. "Nah, I don't want to start with skipping school, so I'm going with Jack and Gina," Joey says laughing.

Hannah looks desperately at Emily. "I'm sorry," Emily states. "Ugh, fine, I'll go to English this time," Hannah says. "You'll like it," I state.

"Hah, I'm not so sure about that," Hannah says laughing. The five of us walk toward the classroom. I hear my phone ringing in my pocket.

"I have to take this one, you can go, I'll be there in a second," I say. Jack nods and Hannah, Emily, Joey, and Jack walk toward the classroom.

I grab my phone. A high voice speaks to me. "Hi! Yeah... Oh My God, really?! Okay, thank you," I state. I put my phone away and walk into the classroom. But the smile doesn't disappear.

POV Seb

I've locked myself in my room. Only ten minutes surviving. Only ten minutes and I can go to school. I look through my window. It starts to rain and there is a pink umbrella blowing through the streets.

I hear footsteps walking in the hallway. The sound is getting louder. He's coming to my room. He's coming for me. The handle goes down. "Damn, Seb, open the door!" the angry voice shouts through the door.

I swallow and slowly turn the key around. My dad storms into my room. "Why the hell did you lock the door," he yells. "I'm sorry," I whisper.

My dad beats me in the face. "Speak louder," he yells. "I'm sorry," I state with tears in my eyes. "Don't cry, crying is for babies, are you a baby?!" my father shouts.

"No," I say. "Speak goddamn louder," my dad shouts and another punch hits my face. "I said no," I say loudly but I can't stop the tears.

~Time Skip~

I walk into the school. I'm too late and my head still hurts. I tried to hide the bruises by putting a hoodie on. It's way too hot because it's a warm summer day but I don't want my friends to care about it, especially not Carlos.

I walk straight to the classroom. When I enter, the teacher looks concerned. I've never been late for school. "I slept through my alarm," I state and I quickly take my seat next to Carlos.

The teacher continues and after the lesson, Carlos looks at me. "Aren't you gonna tell me why you were late?" he asks. I don't look at him, I don't want him to see my face.

"I slept through my alarm," I state. Carlos sighs. "Sebbie, I know you never sleep through your alarm, you're always up so early to milk the cows," he states.

I don't answer. "Seb, talk to me," Carlos says, concerned. "At least look at me," he says. It feels terrible to not do it but I still don't look at him. Carlos turns my face gently.

"Seb, what happened?" he says when he sees my face. My eyes start to water. "I- I just fell against something in the shed," I stutter. "Seb, tell me the truth," Carlos states.

"It is the truth, don't worry, I'm fine," I state and I stand up and walk out of the classroom. In the hallway, I bump into Ashlyn. "Hey Seb," she states.

"Isn't it a bit too warm for a hoodie?" she asks. "Yeah, I didn't think about that," I state. "Well, then at least pull off the cap," she laughs and she puts the hat from my head.

"Wow, what happened to you?" Ashlyn asks shocked when she sees my face. "Nothing," I lie and I walk further.

~Time Skip~

I walk into the theater classroom. Everyone is already there. I'm a bit late to prevent the possible chit-chat.

"Welcome Seb," Miss Jenn states. "Please join us," she says. I walk to the group and Miss Jenn looks at my face. "You okay, sweetheart?" she asks. I nod. "Yeah, I'm fine."

Miss Jenn frowns but continues. "I'm gonna tell you who is going to play Mirabel and the other roles you get in a minute," she says.

"First, I called Gina," Miss Jenn starts. "I asked her to be Mirabel and to prepare her lines in Phoenix. She'll be Mirabel and she'll be here when we have to do the musical," Miss Jenn states.

"Oh my God!" Ashlyn yells. "We couldn't do it without her," Carlos states. Everyone is happy. "Then now the cast list," Miss Jenn says and she waves with a piece of paper.
