The Long Road Ahead

It was the day after Tori's and Darrel's operations. Tori expected that she would have an extensive examination. She knew Dr. Rivers needed to do his usual examination. She also knew that she would have to have her bandages removed and her dad would have to examine her head. She wasn't looking forward to having the extensive examination when she was still in excruciating pain.

Darrel wasn't sure what to expect. She was still in excruciating pain. All Darrel knew was that Tori would get the worst of it as she knew Tori needed 2 examinations. One done by Dr. Rivers then the post op examination done by Dr. Moore. She thought she would also have a post op exam done by her dad. She was anxious about what that would entail. She just wanted to see Tori, but knew she couldn't yet.

At this point, neither Dr. Rivers nor Dr. Moore said anything to Darrel or Tori about when they would have their examinations. They were just getting their equipment ready for the girls post op examinations. Dr. Rivers was getting ready for Tori's routine examination for her polio and clubfoot.

Matron assist them by getting the separate bandages ready. The girls were going to get their bandages changed not completely removed. She got Tori's diaper ready as well. All what Dr. Moore and Dr. Rivers needed for Tori's and Darrel's examinations were now ready. It was now time for them to go speak to the girls. They knew it would be difficult especially with Tori, but it needed to m be done.

It was time for the girls to have their post op examinations. Dr. Rivers went to speak with Darrel. Dr. Moore went to speak with Tori. Both doctors wore their full surgical garments to keep them safe. Dr. Rivers headed to Darrel's bed. Dr. Moore went behind the privacy partition to Tori's bed.

When Dr. Rivers went to Darrel's bed, he sat on the stool beside the bed. He then placed his hand on her gently as she was still asleep. He needed to wake her. She woke when she felt his hand. She looked at his masked face. He told her that he needed to check her incisions to see how they're healing. He told her that her bandages would get changed as well. She understood.

Meanwhile behind the privacy partition, Dr. Moore was waking Tori. He put his hand on her gently. She woke up crying. Dr. Moore scared her. He apologized for scaring her. He told her that he had to wear his full surgical garment to keep her safe. She understood. She told him that she was scared of the post op examination. He told her that he understood that it was quite painful last time. He told her it had to happen. She told him that she understood. He told her that she would have clean bandages. She understood.

Next he told Tori that Dr. Rivers would do his usual examination as well. She understood that her polio and clubfoot was as important as her shunt. She was kind of glad to hear that wasn't being pushed away as all her medical conditions were important not just her shunt. Her polio and clubfoot came before her hydrocephalus and her hydrocephalus is still quite new to her.

The last thing he wanted to tell Tori was that her examinations would be soon. He told her that Dr. Rivers was doing Darrel's post op examination first. She was relieved. He told her that Dr. Rivers knew that Darrel's examination would be faster to do. Tori understood that her own examination was more invasive and she needed both her dad and Dr. Rivers as well as Matron to assist.

It was time for Darrel's post op examination. Dr. Rivers asked Matron to assist him. She had the bandages all ready. She put them on the bed. Dr. Rivers asked Matron to undress Darrel. Darrel didn't hesitate. She just let Matron undress her. Darrel knew it was to make sure everything was sterile when he examined her incisions.

Once Darrel was undressed, Dr. Rivers told his daughter that he was removing her bandages. He told her that it would hurt a bit. She understood. He began to remove the bandages. Darrel winced in pain, but didn't make a sound.
