A few days have passed since Tori wrote her secret essay and handed it in. Ms. Pots had said nothing about it. She was relieved that she wasn't scolded for it. She hoped that Ms. Pots saw how hard she worked on it.
That night she lay in bed. She was fearing the next day because she knew her dad would be coming to check on her. She knew her headache hadn't subsided at all. Dr. Rivers had been monitoring it. She knew that he would tell her dad about it. She was scared that it was something serious like her shunt failing. She didn't want to go back to the hospital again. She was so close at finishing the term.
The next morning. She woke up crying. Darrel and Sally woke up. They asked her what was wrong. She told them that her head was pounding. She told them that it's been the worst it had been for days. They told her that Matron would be coming up to the dorm soon. She was relieve, yet scared. She didn't want Matron scolding her for feeling sick again.
Darrel then asked Tori if there was anything else she needed to know about her condition. Tori told her that she felt sick. Darrel asked her how she was feeling sick. Tori told her that she felt nauseous and dizzy as well. Tori was crying while she was telling Darrel. She felt so bad that she was sick.
Darrel noticed that Tori's crying was making things worse. She tried to calm her down. Sally joined in the effort. Darrel told Tori to breath slowly and deeply. She told Tori that she thought Tori was going to hyperventilate. She told Tori that her dad told her about hyperventilation and how to prevent it. Tori then started to breath slowly and deeply. Darrel told her that she didn't want Matron to see her like that because Matron may scold her.
They really wanted Matron to come soon. They were worried about Tori. They just stayed with Tori. They knew it would be a matter of time when Matron would walk in the door.
Just then, the door open and Matron walked in. she was shocked Tori was still lying in bed and that Darrel and Sally were sitting on her bed. Tori was usually sitting up in bed waiting for Matron to get her out of bed. She walked over to Tori's bed.
Once Matron went to Tori's bed, she saw that Tori was pale and looked sick. She then told Alicia and Marylou to get ready. They got out of bed and got themselves ready for the day. She then could focus on Tori.
Next she asked Tori how she felt. She told Matron about her pounding headache, nausea and feeling dizzy. She also told Matron that she felt like she was about to pass out. That was very concerning to Matron. She told Tori that she would go call her father right away. She then told Darrel and Sally to watch Tori. She then asked then to get her right away if Tori's condition changed. They told Matron that they definitely would. Matron told them that she trusted them and left the dorm to call Dr. Moore.
While Matron was calling Dr. Moore, Darrel and Sally looked after Tori. They were worried that she was very sick because she barely reacted with them at all. They knew they still had to get ready. They thought of a plan to still do as they were asked.
Their plan was simple. One of the girls got ready while the other watched Tori. Alicia and Marylou were all ready dressed. They walked over to Tori to see how she was. Sally was with her while Darrel got ready. They saw how sick she was. They knew she needed her dad to figure out what was going on.
In the San, Matron was on the phone with Dr. Moore. She explain everything that was going on with Tori. She told him it was urgent in her mind. She told him that she hadn't see Tori that sick in a few months. He thanked her for calling him. He told her that he would be on his way. He told her that Dr. Rivers would be accompanying him as well. Matron thanked him. The last thing he asked was to make sure that the supplies for an operation were ready. He told her that they needed to be ready for anything. She agreed then hung up the phone. She then went back to the dorm to check on Tori.
