The day of Tori's important feet operation was fast approaching. Tori was getting more anxious about it. She knew it would help her walk better, but she didn't like the thought of her independence being taken away. She didn't like that she would be bedridden for a month when the casts were on. She still didn't like the whole wearing a diaper thing either, but it was safer for her. She was too weak to use a chamberpot.
The other thoughts Tori had were that when would her mum be allowed to come to see her and when her sister would be allowed to see her. She hadn't seen them in months. She was scared that Allissa wouldn't be allowed because she was so young. Also that Tori had been so sick. She missed Darrel and her other friends too.
The day before the important operation. There was lots to do still. The final preparations had begun. Dr. Rivers wanted to tell Tori everything that was going to happen, so she wouldn't be so anxious about it. Dr. Rivers knew that no amount of preparation would ease Tori's medical anxiety.
When Dr. Rivers walked in the room, He wasn't wearing his surgical garment. He was wearing his surgical mask though. He walked over to the sink and washed his hands. He then put gloves on. He wanted to check her feet.
When he checked her feet, he noticed how sensitive they were. He barely touched them and she flinched. He told her that after her bath in the morning the nurses would mark her feet. He told her that he wanted to make sure the correct foot would get the correct operation. She completely understood.
He told her that he would tell her how long the operation would be. He told Tori that the clubfoot repair would only take 90 minutes. He told her that the operation on her left foot would take the most time as the bunion surgery may take up to 3 hours. He told her that the drop foot operation will take 3 hours as it involves her tendons. He told her that it was going to be a long operation.
Next he told her that she would be the only case for him. He told her that her case involved a lot, so that was why she was his only case. He reminded her he was performing 3 foot operation all at once. He told her that he thought it was easier, so she would have to deal with only one recovery time instead multiple. She understood.
Later on after Dr. Rivers left, Dr. Moore walked in with Mrs. Moore. Tori was grateful to see her mum. She was glad her parents weren't wearing any surgical masks. She was glad they could touch her. Dr. Moore sneaked out of the room.
Tori was alone with her mum. She was nervous. She didn't know if she knew about her shunt issue. She didn't want to be scolded. Her mum walked over to her and sat on the bed. She put her arms around Tori. She told her that she was glad to see her. She told her not to worry about being scolded. She told Tori that her dad told her about the shunt issues. She told her that she understood that the shunts weren't perfect. She reminded Tori that her dad was the best neurosurgeon in England.
Moments later, Dr. Moore returned. He had brought Will and uncle James with him. Tori was so glad to see them. Will had brought his doll with him.
When Will saw his mum he ran to Tori's bed. Mrs. Moore stood from the bed and went towards him. They embraced. Will had tears while hugging his mum. He hadn't seen her since Christmas.
Dr. Moore just stared at his family. He had tears in his eyes. He knew this wasn't a good moment for them to be gathering. No moment in the hospital unless it's a baby. He was just grateful that Tori was getting an operation that would improve her life.
Tori understood Will's feelings. She let him have his moment. Her dad and Uncle James walked to her bed. She held her doctor bear and Bark. She secretly didn't want her dad to see her. She was worried he would sense any neurological changes. He has been quite sensitive about when Tori has a neurological issue.
