Tori's Procedure & Darrel's Post Op Checkup

Tori was extremely upset at this point. She knew it was in a matter of time that she would be taken away again. She didn't like being put to sleep at all. She remembered when her left shunt failed in the San and being put to sleep was terrifying. Dr. Moore and the rest of her family were trying to comfort her. Dr. Moore told her that there wasn't anything she could have prior to going into the operating room. Nurse Annie told her that she could stay with her while she was being put to sleep. Tori told her that it would be helpful.

Suddenly, Tori started to cry. She was worried she wasn't allowed anything to comfort her. Dr. Moore saw how terrified Tori was. He was trying to assure her that she was allowed to bring a comfort item into the operating room with her for her procedure. She was relieved. He told her to choose wisely. He told her to choose one. He reminded her she was only allowed to bring one with her. Will then spoke up. He told her that after her procedure that he would give her, her other comforts back. He told her he would keep them company with a wink.

Just then, she felt bad that she was having a procedure done while Darrel was visiting. Dr. Moore told her that Dr. Rivers told Darrel about the procedure. He told her that Darrel was getting a post op check up while she was getting her procedure done. She asked if Darrel was allowed to see her after her procedure. Dr. Moore told her that that if Dr. Rivers allowed it then it would be okay. Tori then asked if she could spend time a little time with Darrel before she was taken. He told her it was okay.

When Dr. Rivers walked over with Darrel, Mrs. Moore, Dr. Moore and nurse Annie walked away. Will stayed because Tori wanted him to. Uncle James joined the others. Dr. Rivers told Tori that he had to stay as her dad wanted him to. She understood. Darrel then sat on the edge of the bed.

When Darrel sat on the bed, she took Tori's right hand. She told her that it would be okay. She saw how scared Tori was. She then saw Tori's dog again. She thought to asked her about him. She then asked her about her dog. She told her that his name was Bark and that her uncle James gave him to her after she was discharged from hospital after having polio. Tori explained that her mum found him in her room at home. Tori told Darrel that she thought if she brought him along with her doctor bear that she would be teased for having comforts. Darrel told her that they wouldn't have done that. Darrel reminded her that her brother gave her an aviator bear during open day. She reminder her that the girls made her doll to help comfort her as well. Tori felt a bit better, but she was scared about the procedure.

Just then, Tori saw her dad and nurse Annie walking towards the bed. She hid her face under the blanket. She didn't want to go. Darrel and Dr. Rivers as well as Will saw the quick reaction from Tori. Dr. Rivers told Tori that he would be with her while she was being put to sleep. He told her that he had some medication that could help calm her. He told her that she would have to drink it and it was very unpleasant tasting. He told her that he already spoke to her dad about it and would get it for her. She thought if it would help her anxiety then she agreed. He left to get the medication.

When Dr. Moore and Nurse Annie arrived at the bed, Tori was still hidden under the blanket. He told his daughter that he wasn't going to do anything to her. He and nurse Annie just wanted to talk to her. She understood. He told her that Dr. Rivers asked him about giving her medication prior to going into the operating room. He told her that Dr. Rivers was always looking out for her. He then told her he was leaving to get ready for her procedure. He told her that he wanted to give her a hug. She told him that she would like that.

She pulled the blanket down from her face. She saw her dad in his full surgical garment and got scared. He went over to hug her. Darrel moved. Dr. Moore gently wrapped his arms around his daughter and told her that the procedure was going to help her heal and get back to school. She understood. She was crying while he hugged her. He told her he knew she was scared and Dr. Rivers would return with the medication to help with that. He then let go and told her he had to go. He stood then left the room.
