The Visitor

The next morning. Dr. Moore and Dr. Rivers were doing their usual routine with Tori. Tori wasn't having any of it. They were checking how her incisions were healing. Dr. Moore had to do an examination on her shunt to make sure it continued to function properly as well. She was completely naked while this was going on. Dr. Rivers had to do his usual examination he removed her leg braces and socks.

He had an idea while she was completely naked. He popped his head out from behind the privacy partition. He asked Matron for hot water, clean towels and soap. She gathered those things on a cart and went behind the privacy partition with them.

When Tori saw the cart, she got scared. She didn't know what to make of it. She didn't know what Dr. Rivers, Matron and her dad were going to do to her. She was scared that she needed another operation.

Just then, Dr. Moore sensed her anxiety. He still was holding her head in his gloved hands. He was staring at her with his masked face. He told her that he and Dr. Rivers wanted her to have a thorough cleaning. He called it a medical cleaning. He told her that the cleaning was to help prevent infection. She understood. He let her know that he and Dr. Rivers would be examining her as they cleaned her to be thorough. She understood.

Before they could clean her, they noticed Tori didn't have any clean nightclothes. They asked Matron to go to the dorm to grab Tori some clean nightclothes from her trunk. Matron also made the observation that Darrel also needed clean nightclothes. She mentioned this to Dr. Rivers. He agreed to get Darrel's nightclothes as well as Tori's. She left the San and headed to the dorm.

When Matron entered the dorm, she saw Sally and Marylou on their beds quietly reading. She went over to Tori's trunk. She opened it. She grabbed a set of Tori's nightclothes and put them on Tori's bed. She quickly closed Tori's trunk. She then went to Darrel's trunk, opened it and got a set of Darrel's nightclothes out. She then placed them on Darrel's bed and closed Darrel's trunk. She grabbed Tori's and Darrel's nightclothes from their bed and headed to the door.

Suddenly, Sally looked up from her book. She saw Matron with Tori's and Darrel's nightclothes. She asked Matron how Darrel and Tori were. Matron told her that they were on the mend. Sally asked if they were allowed visitors. She told her that she would ask Dr. Moore and Dr. Rivers about it. Sally understood and went back to her book. Matron left the dorm with the 2 sets of nightclothes in hand.

When Matron walked in the San with the 2 sets of nightclothes, she walked over to Darrel's bed. She put a clean set of Darrel's nightclothes on the foot of the bed. Darrel thanked her. Matron got a clean bed ready for Tori. She heard Dr. Moore comforting Tori. She heard Dr. Rivers telling Tori that he was nearly done his examination. She heard Tori crying and screaming. Matron figured Dr. Rivers was straightening Tori's right foot.

Behind the privacy partition, Tori was clean and wearing a clean diaper. Dr. Moore held her head steady while Dr. Rivers put Tori's leg braces on. He was comforting her as well as putting her leg braces spiked her pain. The braces were now on.

Once Tori's braces were put on, both Dr. Rivers and Dr. Moore removed their dirty gloves. They washed their hands. They changed into dry surgical garments. They helped each other secure their surgical garments. Dr. Moore then lifted Tori from the bed into his arms. They walked out from the privacy partition.

When they emerged from behind the privacy partition, Dr. Rivers held Tori's 2 bears and doll and Dr. Moore had Tori in his arms. Darrel saw that Tori was just wearing a diaper and both her leg braces and arm brace. Darrel thought Tori still looked quite sick. They saw that Matron had a clean bed with Tori's clean nightclothes ready for her. They walked over to the bed.

Once at the bed, Dr. Moore gently lay Tori onto the bed. Dr. Rivers then gave Tori her bears and doll. She thanked him. Dr. Moore then sat on the stool beside Tori's bed and Dr. Rivers sat on the stool beside Darrel's bed.
