The next morning Matron woke the girls in the dorm. Matron saw Darrel helping Tori get her uniform from on top of Tori's trunk as well as Tori's leg braces and arm brace. Darrel then helped Tori into her leg braces and walked her to the bathroom to change. Matron was shocked to see this.
When both Tori and Darrel were dressed, Matron asked Darrel about helping Tori. She told Matron that her father asked her to. Darrel knew that Tori's arm brace was more complicated to put on, so she ask Matron to help. Matron walked over to Tori who sat on her trunk. Matron gently put Tori's arm brace on her. The girls then headed to breakfast.
After breakfast, they headed back to the dorm to get there books for class. The dorm had 8 beds. Four on each end of the room. Tori's bed was between Darrel's and Sally's. Tori made her bed and tidied her area. She had 2 photos on her night table. One photo was of her parents and younger sister Allissa and the second was of her older brother Will who was a pilot in the Royal Air Force during the war who was injured when his spitfire was hit by the Luftwaffe. She hoped her brother would be able to leave the hospital. He had sustained neurological injuries in the crash. Tori then gathered her books for class.
Just then, Miss Greyling walked in with a young lady. Tori was surprised to see Mrs. Greyling. She introduced the young lady as Pamela. She told Tori that she would help with her school work. Mrs. Greyling told Tori that they wanted to speak with her privately in Mrs. Greyling's study. They left the dorm and headed to Mrs. Greyling's study.
Once they entered Mrs. Greyling's study, Matron was sitting on the a couch in the study. She told Tori and Pamela to sit down. She then closed the door and walked over to them. Tori had her school books on her lap. Miss Greyling told Tori that she wouldn't miss her English class.
It was time for Miss Greyling to tell Tori why she was there. Miss Greyling told Tori that she was talking to her about her accommodations. She told Tori that she was exempt from gym and a few parts of domestic science. Matron then spoke. She told Tori that instead of gym that she would go to the San and do stretches. She explained to Tori that Dr. Rivers recommended it to keep her loose and in less pain. Pamela then spoke. She told Tori that she was there to help her with her school work. She would be there to help her get assignments done. Mrs. Greyling told Tori that she would have extra time to take tests and assignments if needed. She told her that Pamela would help with that. The discussion was complete. She was then allowed to head to her English class.
When Tori walked in to class, she found an empty desk beside Sally at the front of the class. She sat down beside Sally. She placed her books and supplies on the desk. Ms. Pots walked over to Tori. She told her that Sally would be writing any notes. She also let her know that Pamela had a copy of all the assignments as well. She thanked Ms. Pots. Class could now begin.
Ms. Pots began class with an assignment. She wanted the girls to write an essay introducing themselves. She told them that they had to use adjectives. She told the girls that she will explain what adjectives were and they would have little assignments to help them practice them.
After the lesson on adjectives, they were asked to write a few sentences describing themselves. Tori thought and thought how to describe herself. She had never really had to do that before. She thought of a few things like courageous, strong and incredible. She even decided to explain why she felt that way. Ms. Pots walked around the class to see how everyone was doing.
When she saw what Tori was writing, she was impressed. She thought her penmanship was amazing. She thought what Tori had written was very true to what she had gone through. The class had now ended and it was onto History.
Once they went to History, Tori sat in the front of the class again. Sally sat behind her. She was asked to write Tori's notes. They were learning about the history of Malory Towers itself. Tori was quite intrigued. She always loved history. She was looking forward to learn about England's history.
